We have some bad news for General Hospital fans, especially those invested in the stories involving Lucky Spencer, played by Jonathan Jackson.
After getting rejected by Liz Webber, played by Rebecca Herbst, in a recent episode, Lucky is making a run for it out of Port Charles. According to a report from TV Insider, Jackson will be leaving General Hospital beginning the week of Monday, June 9. We don’t know which episode will be Jackson’s last just yet, so fans had better make sure they don’t miss a single episode. Remember, new episodes of General Hospital air daily on ABC.
If this feels a little bit familiar, that’s because it is! This isn’t the first time Jackson has left the series either. He got his start on General Hospital in this role way back in 1993. He stuck around in various episodes through 1999 before he stepped away from the series. He returned for the first time in 2009, left, and returned again in 2015 for a short run.
Then, in the fall of 2024, Jackson returned for his longest run on General Hospital in more than a decade. This time, he stuck around for almost nine months, but he’s leaving again soon.
It’s unclear if Jackson is leaving the series voluntarily, potentially for another role or something like that, or if time is up for his character and the story. While we don’t know the exact reason for his exit, it appears to be that this is where the story led the character, which means Jackson’s services as Lucky are no longer needed in the near future. It doesn’t look like this is a goodbye forever, though, so don’t expect the writers to kill off Lucky.
TV Insider reported that Frank Valentini, the executive producer of the series, welcomed Jackson back to the series in the future. So, that’s obviously a good sign. We know that these soap stars have a way of making a comeback from time to time. Honestly, it’s wild that he’s been playing this role off and on for three decades while also starring in Nashville and other shows and movies.
I don’t want to come off too strongly, but there’s just no way Jackson won’t return as Lucky in Port Charles. The story is set up perfectly for him to return. He told Liz and others that Port Charles doesn’t feel like home anymore after getting dumped, and I get that, but I’m sure it will feel like home again in the future. Maybe he’ll return a year from now when Liz is about to get married to someone else to fuel a love triangle? Anything is possible in General Hospital; we all know that.

Jackson isn’t the only one to star as Lucky, though, so if he’s unavailable, the series could potentially bring another actor in for the role, as well.
We’ll share more updates about Jackson’s potential return to General Hospital when we find out! Only time will tell if that will happen.
