If you’ve already started watching Ransom Canyon on Netflix, you might be wondering the same thing we were after just one episode: where is this gorgeous little town, and how fast can we move there?
From sweeping ranch views to old storefronts that look like they’ve been standing for 100 years, the series captures small-town life in a way that feels instantly familiar—especially for folks who’ve spent time in the country. And while Ransom Canyon is set in Texas, you might be surprised to learn that it was actually filmed in another beautiful state entirely.
Where is Ransom Canyon filmed?
According to Netflix, the show was shot in and around Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The production team even used the historic mining town of Las Vegas, New Mexico (not to be confused with the one in Nevada!) to double as the town of Ransom Canyon. It’s located near the Texas border and has that perfect blend of turn-of-the-century architecture and cozy Western charm. “It just looks like an old Texas town,” the show’s creator April Blair told Netflix.
Though the fictional Ransom Canyon is inspired by author Jodi Thomas’s Texas-set book series, the show’s cast and crew found their version of home right there in New Mexico. Josh Duhamel, who plays stoic rancher Staten Kirkland, shared how meaningful it felt to film in wide open spaces. “New Mexico is a spiritual place,” he said. “You can watch the sunsets in the hillsides and the vistas are unbelievable.”
Minka Kelly, who plays Quinn O’Grady, also felt a personal connection—she actually grew up in Albuquerque. Returning to film the series gave her a fresh appreciation for the landscapes she once took for granted. “It made me see Albuquerque with new eyes,” she told Netflix.
So no, you won’t find a real town called Ransom Canyon with a Main Street and a dance hall (at least not one exactly like this). But thanks to those stunning backdrops and the heart behind every character, you’ll still feel like you’ve been there. And that’s all part of the magic!
