The world of 9-1-1 is officially expanding. The spinoff that has, until recently, just been in development, been given a straight-to-series order — and we now know where it will take place.
The name of the new series reveals its location: 9-1-1: Nashville. The Tennessee-set third series in the franchise, with the first set in Los Angeles and the second, Lone Star, which just wrapped its five-season run on Fox, was in Austin. 9-1-1 moved to ABC after six seasons and is currently airing its eighth.
What is 9-1-1: Nashville about?
The new 9-1-1 series explores the high-stakes lives of first responders in one of America’s most iconic cultural hubs.
Who’s in the 9-1-1: Nashville cast?
Chris O’Donnell is set to star as Captain Don Sharpe, “a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son. Don’s a devoted husband and family man but he has his secrets.”
Jessica Capshaw has also joined the cast as a series regular. She’ll be playing Don’s wife and Ryan’s mother, according to Deadline. The role of Ryan hasn’t been cast.
Joining them in undisclosed roles are LeAnn Rimes and Kimberly Williams-Paisley.
Hailey Kilgore, Michael Provost, Juani Feliz, and Hunter McVey have also joined the spinoff, Variety reports on June 3. Kilgore’s Taylor is “a firefighter and incredible singer,” Provost’s Ryan is “a modern-day cowboy and firefighter,” Feliz’s Cammi is “an adrenaline junkie and former trauma surgeon,” and McVey’s Blue is “a haunted bad boy who is now a firefighter.”
9-1-1: Nashville is written by franchise co-creators Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear and Lone Star showrunner Rashad Raisani. Joining them as executive producers are Brad Falchuk, who co-created the other two series, and Angela Bassett, who in addition to starring in and executive producing 9-1-1, was an EP on Lone Star. (She also guest-starred in the spinoff.)
When will 9-1-1: Nashville premiere?
An exact premiere date has yet to be announced. So far, we know it will air on ABC, in the 2025-26 season.
Is there a 9-1-1: Nashville trailer?
No. Will Lone Star characters appear on Nashville?
When TV Insider spoke with Raisani about the Lone Star finale, he shared with us that he “would love” to see characters from that show pop up on the spinoff (or 9-1-1).
Will Nashville have the same tone as the other 9-1-1 shows?
“I think that it will have a different tone,” Raisani also teased for us. “It will still hopefully feel like our DNA, but in the same way that Lone Star was different than 9-1-1 and had its own feel, I think that if we can get this right, this will have its own feel.”
Will 9-1-1 introduce Nashville in a backdoor pilot?
Minear also shared with us in November that there won’t be a backdoor pilot on 9-1-1 to set up the new (at the time potential) spinoff. That was true of Lone Star as well, though there was some crossover between the two shows over the years (but not as much as they’d hoped).
The world of first responders is expanding once again. Following the success of “9-1-1” and its Texas counterpart “9-1-1: Lone Star,” ABC is set to introduce a new chapter in the franchise with “9-1-1: Nashville”. Set to premiere during the 2025–26 TV season, this spinoff brings the high-stakes drama of emergency services to the heart of Tennessee.
