Jim Parsons Teases His Young Sheldon Series Finale Cameo With Mayim Bialik

Jim Parsons reveals new details about his upcoming return as Sheldon in the Young Sheldon series finale, and it may be disappointing for TBBT fans.

Jim Parsons offers an update on his and Mayim Bialik’s Young Sheldon finale cameo, and it may disappoint viewers. Five years after The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019, the on-screen couple is set to reprise their beloved roles as Sheldon and Amy for the prequel. Set for a special one-hour send-off on May 16, Young Sheldon will wrap up Sheldon’s stories in Medford, Texas, and transition him into his new life in Pasadena, California, as he begins his post-graduate studies at Caltech.

In an interview with TodayParsons teases what to expect from his cameo in Young Sheldon season 7, which will also include Bialik’s Amy.

Aside from Iain Armitage, Parsons will also physically appear in the Young Sheldon series finale — his first time since he bowed out of the nerd-centric sitcom. Unfortunately, it does sound like they are the only ones to make an appearance, which means that the much-anticipated The Big Bang Theory reunion won’t happen in the Young Sheldon send-off. Read the full quote below:

Big Bang Theory was always a live-audience show and Young Sheldon is a single-camera show, and I got to do it with Mayim — we both played Sheldon and Amy from the series — and to do it in that situation, it was just different enough that it wasn’t creepy. Like going like, ‘What are we doing here again?!’ Instead, it was really sweet. It felt like the nicest little coda to the whole experience, and I was very grateful that they asked us to do it.

Unlike The Big Bang Theory , which had a multi-cam set-up, Young Sheldon is a single-cam series.

Why The Young Sheldon Finale Needs More Big Bang Theory Characters To Appear

Leonard Is Arguably More Important To Sheldon’s Story Than Amy.

Undoubtedly, it would be great to see the fan-favorite couple back on the screen, even if it’s just for a cameo. For context, the pair reunited before in Young Sheldon, albeit just in a voice cameo capacity. This will be the first time that both of them will physically appear. That being said, there’s an argument to be made that it wouldn’t be a satisfying The Big Bang Theory tribute if Sheldon is not reunited with Leonard. As vital as Amy was in his adult life, Johnny Galecki’s character was long Sheldon’s keeper before Amy appeared.

Leonard’s appearance would be amazing. Not only will it bring The Big Bang Theory full circle, since it started with his and Sheldon’s friendship, but it will also allow CBS to offer an update on how the Hoftstaders are doing after Penny’s divisive pregnancy arc. It would be better to see Leonard’s wife because she was also integral to Sheldon’s growth. However, if that isn’t possible, at the very least, Leonard needs to make an appearance with Bialik’s Amy and Parsons’ Sheldon. Otherwise, Young Sheldon would waste the only remaining opportunity to gather these characters again.

Maybe Parsons is just being careful not to reveal any additional details about his return as Sheldon in the Young Sheldon finale. This way, CBS can preserve the surprise of seeing Galecki and other members of the Pasadena gang join them in the cameo. If Galecking and the rest don’t appear, however, hopefully, the prequel is able to pay homage to The Big Bang Theory in ways beyond just referencing Sheldon’s romance, since it was his friendships that carried him throughout the nerd-centric sitcom.
