Audiences love to see the sweet familial relationships between on-screen casts, but to see them exist in real life is thrilling. Young Sheldon, which recently came to an end after seven seasons, follows the Cooper family, focusing on their genius son, Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage, portraying the teen version of Jim Parson’s Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory). While the family is close in the series, they are also quite close in real life.
From Annie Potts maintaining her grandmotherly love for the Cooper children to the sibling relationships living on behind the scenes, the Young Sheldon cast members have close friendships in real life. Keep reading to find out more about the love they have for each other!
Annie Potts is as loving and sweet as Meemaw
On-screen, Annie Potts portrays Meemaw to the Cooper kids — Georgie, Sheldon and Missy — and it seems their sweet relationship continues after the camera stops rolling. Potts and Iain Armitage have a close connection, with Armitage sharing a glimpse into their fondness for each other in a post dedicated to Potts.
“I love her love her love her love her love her,” he wrote. “It has been a joy being Moonpie to Ms Annie’s MeeMaw… Now she has real grandchildren, but I’m very honored to have been one of her first practice grandchildren. She’s one of my very favorite people! ❤️It’s all been a dream, MeeMaw!”
Potts isn’t just close with Armitage — she loves all her fictional grandchildren, including Raegan Revord, who plays Sheldon’s twin sister, Melissa “Missy” Cooper.
“I love the children, and it’s been a privilege to watch them grow up. [Iain is] so grown up, and when we started, he and Reagan would get on my lap and kiss me.”
Potts even shared an adorable photo of she and Revord from the first season and the most recent, writing, “Then and now. Thank God some things never change ❤️”
The Cooper siblings are real-life friends
During the making of the show, Revord and Armitage enjoyed a sibling-like relationship in real life that was reflective of the one they shared in the series.

Revord is also close with Montana Jordan, who plays her older brother Georgie on Young Sheldon (a role he’s reprising on the new series Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage). She even considers herself “Auntie Rae” to Jordan’s newborn daughter, Emma Rae. Some have speculated that he named his daughter after Revord, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
In a birthday post to Jordan, Revord wrote, “I am so lucky to get to grow up with you and call you a big brother! Love you so much! Happy birthday. 🥳”
Iain Armitage is Jim Parsons’ mini-me in real life and on-screen
Not only is Armitage the younger version of Jim Parsons’ Sheldon on TV, but the two are quite close in real life as well. As noted, Parsons portrayed Sheldon prior to Armitage while starring in The Big Bang Theory and passed on the role in 2017.
Armitage has spoken highly of Parsons in the past and even went to see the actor in NAME SHOW on Broadway multiple times, sharing the experience in an Instagram post.
“I ended up sitting in the front row for a preview performance and it was so, so, so great! Jim is astonishing and he’s surrounded by an incredible cast. Honestly, I want to go back and see it all again!… I was so happy to see Jim again!!!”
