Star Wars Jedi: Survivor: Who Is Rayvis?

It was always clear that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was going to introduce new characters and villains to the storyline, especially because of how it seeks to continue Cal Kestis’ ongoing story of survival in a time the odds were against him and any of the surviving Jedi during the reign of the Empire. One such character introduced early and before the game’s release was Rayvis. So, who is Rayvis in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor?

Rayvis is one of the major antagonists of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and is a male Gen’Dai, a species of humans made of regenerative tentacles. He is the leader of a group of marauders called the Bedlam Raiders and was the same person that sent Zeik to kill Cal Kestis.

One of the things that we know about Jedi: Survivor is that it seeks to tell a story that is different from the one that has been told in past Star Wars canon movies and shows. Of course, Rayvis adds to the mystique behind Cal Kestis’ storyline and journey as a Jedi as he is one of the characters he encountered in Survivor. Now, let’s talk more about Rayvis.

The story and journey of Cal Kestis, a survivor of the destruction of the Jedi Order and the Jedi Purge, continues during the events of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to the hit video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Set five years after the first game, and during the height of the Empire’s power, Survivor seeks to allow us to see what’s up next for Cal Kestis and what he needs to do to continue to survive amidst the dangers that await any Jedi that Darth Vader and the Inquisitors are looking to kill.

While we already saw Cal finding a way to evade the Inquisitors and even Darth Vader in the first game, the second game seeks to allow us to see him meeting new people and clashing with novel characters that we have never seen before in the Star Wars continuity. One of the characters that Cal Kestis met and faced during the events of Jedi: Survivor is Rayvis. So, who is Rayvis in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor?

Rayvis is one of the major villains in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and is a member of a rare race of alien species called the Gen’Dai. He has been around for hundreds of years and was even alive during the time of the High Republic. In the events of Survivor, Rayvis went on to become the leader of a group of marauders called the Bedlam Raiders.

Centuries before the events of Survivor, Rayvis actually met with a High Republic-era Jedi named Dagan Gera and dueled with him. As such, there is already an established connection between the two characters from an era that long preceded the events of the main Star Wars movie and the era of the Empire. That would also mean that Rayvis has been around for a very long time, considering that the only reason why Dagan was in the game was that he was frozen in stasis in a Bacta tank.

During the events of the game, Rayvis clashed with Cal Kestis and was the one who sent Zeik after him to kill him, telling Zeik to remind Cal why the Jedi were supposed to be dead. Rayvis and Cal also dueled in the events of the game.

Is Rayvis a Villain?
There is no doubt that Rayvis is a villain in the events of the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor game, as he was the leader of a group of marauders that Cal Kestis clashed with. He also sent his men to kill the Jedi protagonist, saying that the Jedi were supposed to be dead.

What Species Is Rayvis?
As mentioned, Rayvis belongs to a species called the Gen’Dai. The Gen’Dai are rare alien species that are large and sentient. They have humanoid features but bodies that are made up of a mass of regenerative tentacles. As such, the Gen’Dai can heal from their injuries rather quickly due to the very nature of their bodies, as these tentacles could easily regenerate. This also explains why the Gen’Dai are a species that are capable of living for a very long time, as the tentacles can simply regenerate.

Star Wars: Is Cal Kestis Gay, Straight, or Bisexual?
In the past, the Gen’Dai were known to be a peaceful group of people but eventually became violent during the time of the High Republic because of the devastation of their home world. The devastation of their planet is also the reason why there aren’t a lot of Gen’Dai in the Star Wars continuity. Besides Rayvis, Durge is the only other confirmed member of this species. Durge was introduced before Rayvis as he was the first Gen’Dai introduced in the Star Wars canon when he appeared in 2020 in the Doctor Aphra comic books.

The Gen’Dai may be capable of living longer than any other species we’ve seen in the Star Wars continuity, as Rayvis was around during the time of the High Republic and was still alive during the fall of the Jedi Order and the rise of the Empire. During the reign of the Empire, Rayvis didn’t even look old, unlike Yoda, who was at the end of his lifespan during the Imperial era. It is possible that Rayvis is easily over a thousand years old and is probably the oldest character introduced in Star Wars canon.

Again, the longevity of the Gen’Dai could be explained by the fact that regenerative tentacles form their bodies. So, the tentacles can easily regenerate whenever a body part deteriorates due to age. Despite that, there aren’t a lot of Gen’Dai left in the galaxy, as only two of them are confirmed to exist in the current Star Wars canon.
