Well, well, well. General Hospital fans, we knew there was a possibility of this happening, but the day has finally come. When the long-running soap opera airs its new episode on ABC at 3:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. CT today, you might be slightly taken aback because a familiar face will now look a little unfamiliar. That’s right, Michael Corinthos has been recast, and there’s a new actor stepping into one of Port Charles’ most iconic roles.
Michael Corinthos first appeared on General Hospital in 1997 and has been portrayed by numerous actors throughout the years. Chad Duell was the most recent to take on the role, stepping in back in 2010 and becoming one of the character’s most iconic portrayals until he exited in late 2024. In November 2024, Duell announced his departure from the show through an Instagram post. Although he didn’t reveal his reasons at that time, he later opened up about them during an interview on The Daily Drama Podcast with Steve Burton & Bradford Anderson.
After nearly 15 years portraying Michael Corinthos, Duell felt his life had reached a point of stagnation. He needed to step away to reflect on what’s best for his future and to work through some challenging personal experiences, including coming to terms with the recent loss of his father. During this same interview, Duell also mentioned that he was open to returning to the role someday if possible.Well, it looks like his chance has passed because the role of Michael Corinthos has now officially been recast, and Rory Gibson is set to bring new life to the character moving forward. Soap fans will most likely already recognize Gibson as he played the role of Noah Newman in The Young and the Restless. Some people might’ve also watched him in the thrillers A Night to Regret and Twisted Tin or the Netflix epic space opera Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire. But if you’ve never seen him before, you’re about to start seeing him a lot from now on.
He’ll make his first appearance as Michael in today’s episode of General Hospital. The last time we saw Michael was many episodes ago, after he was severely injured in an explosion at Sonny’s penthouse and flown to Germany for treatment. Now, he’s back in Port Charles just in time for the annual Nurses’ Ball, where drama, secrets, and surprises are sure to unfold. With Michael’s return, this isn’t a General Hospital episode you want to miss!
