FBI Stars React Honestly to Spinoff Cancellations: ‘It’s a Bummer

Nobody ever likes it when their favorite shows get the boot, especially when there’s still so much story left to tell and beloved characters we’re not ready to say goodbye to. Sadly, that’s exactly what fans of the FBI franchise are dealing with now, as two of its spinoffs were recently cut short. They are still incredibly disappointed by these cancellations, and even some of the stars from the parent series aren’t sugarcoating how much it stings.

Back in early March 2025, CBS had begun making significant show cancellations as part of changes to its TV lineup. Two major victims of these cuts were the FBI spinoff series: FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International. While FBI: Most Wanted ended with six seasons, FBI: International concluded with four.

CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach spoke with Deadline in May 2025, and gave the main reason for both FBI shows cancellations. Apparently, the decision came down to economics. Reisenbach explained that while they valued their partnership with executive producer Dick Wolf, the financials for FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International “just weren’t penciling out” for the network. In other words, the cost of continuing the shows no longer made sense from a budget standpoint.

In a recent interview with Parade, FBI stars Alana de la Garza and Jeremy Sisto gave their honest reactions to the cancellation of the franchise’s two spinoffs. De la Garza called it “a bummer,” comparing the loss to one of your “sisters going away,” and praised the talented people involved in the spinoffs. Sisto echoed her sentiment, describing the cancellations as “a heartbreak” and saying how it was hard to see the shared universe come to such an abrupt end. Ultimately, both expressed disappointment but also gratitude for the experiences they had while collaborating across the franchise.

“I think it’s always a bummer when one of your sisters goes away. They’re all great people, and you want to see good actors do good work and be a part of it. It was fun to be able to hop over and give them a hug and play a little with the team. So yeah, I mean, it’s definitely disappointing.” – Alana de la Garza

“For sure. I had a couple of great trips with my kids over to Rome and Budapest, and so it’s very sad that that’s no longer a possibility. They were great shows, so it’s a heartbreak that we had this universe that really suddenly got truncated. I don’t know how these decisions are made. But yeah, it’s a bummer.” – Jeremy Sisto

De la Garza plays the role of Special Agent in Charge Isobel Castille in FBI, while Sisto portrays FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine. Both reprised their respective roles in both Most Wanted and International in several episodes. That’s why they have more of a personal connection to the canceled shows. Having worked closely with the casts and crews of both shows, and having stepped into their storylines, it makes sense why these cancellations hit a little harder for them.

Most Wanted was created by René Balcer and served as the first FBI spinoff. The show revolves around a special FBI team called the Fugitive Task Force. Their job is to actively track down and arrest the most dangerous criminals on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. Unlike a typical police unit, this team is mobile and undercover, constantly working out in the field to catch criminals who are trying hard to avoid getting caught. The cast is made up of actors such as Julian McMahon, Kellan Lutz, Roxy Sternberg, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Nathaniel Arcand, Dylan McDermott, and many others.

International, on the other hand, was created by Dick Wolf and Derek Haas and was the second spinoff in the FBI franchise. It follows the elite agents of the FBI’s International Fly Team, based in Budapest, as they travel the globe to investigate and neutralize threats against American citizens abroad. Luke Kleintank, Heida Reed, Carter Redwood, Vinessa Vidotto, Christiane Paul, Eva-Jane Willis, Christina Wolfe, Jesse Lee Soffer, and others made up the show’s cast.

Though it’s disappointing that these two FBI spinoffs were canceled, fans can still look forward to the upcoming spinoff FBI: CIA, featuring Tom Ellis in one of the two lead roles. The show is scheduled to start airing on CBS in the 2025-2026 broadcast season.
