Since its debut in 2003, NCIS has become one of the most popular and longest-running television series in the US. Over the past two decades, NCIS has not only captivated audiences with its compelling cases but also captivated viewers with memorable characters like Gibbs, Abby, Tony, Ziva and McGee. But as time has passed, many familiar faces have left the series – so what are they doing now?
Mark Harmon (Leroy Jethro Gibbs)
NCIS icon Mark Harmon left the show in season 19 after nearly 20 years. He is now an executive producer on the prequel series NCIS: Origins and also serves as the narrator. Although he is no longer on camera, Harmon still plays a key role in the “NCIS universe”.
Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo)
After leaving NCIS in season 13, Weatherly moved on to star in the series Bull, which lasted for six seasons. Recently, the actor hinted at the possibility of reuniting with Cote de Pablo (Ziva David) in a new spin-off series revolving around the Tony – Ziva couple. The project is being developed by CBS and is highly anticipated.
Cote de Pablo (Ziva David)
Cote once made fans burst into tears when she unexpectedly returned in seasons 16 and 17 after many years of absence. After NCIS, she participated in a number of small projects but still kept her personal life quite private. If the series about Tony – Ziva becomes a reality, she will once again return to the audience as Ziva.
Pauley Perrette (Abby Sciuto)
The actress left NCIS after season 15 amid behind-the-scenes controversy. She then appeared in the sitcom Broke, but the show only lasted one season. In 2020, Perrette announced his retirement and is now spending time on charity and personal activities.
David McCallum (Donald “Ducky” Mallard)
The “legendary forensic doctor” of NCIS has been absent from the main role since season 16, but still occasionally appears in special episodes. Unfortunately, McCallum passed away in September 2023 at the age of 90, leaving many regrets for global fans.
Sean Murray (Timothy McGee)
As one of the long-time members of NCIS, Sean Murray still plays McGee until season 22. His character is now a pillar of the team and still retains much affection from the audience.
Emily Wickersham (Eleanor Bishop)
After leaving the show at the end of season 18, Wickersham took a break from acting to have her first child. She still keeps in touch with the original cast and has expressed her desire to return to NCIS if the right opportunity arises.
They may be leaving NCIS, but they will live on in the hearts of fans
Although many familiar faces are no longer appearing regularly, the legacy they left on NCIS is irreplaceable. With spin-offs like NCIS: Hawai’i, NCIS: Sydney, NCIS: Origins, and the upcoming Tony-Ziva series, the NCIS universe continues to expand — and viewers are always hoping to see old characters in the future.
