Careers and freedom are on the line in the Chicago Fire season 13 finale, and it all comes off the back of the penultimate episode. At the same time, we’re watching for how Carver and Ritter will be written out of the series since they’re not returning as series regulars in Chicago Fire season 14.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for the Chicago Fire season 13 finale.
Chicago Fire season 13 introduced us to Chief Pascal and his wife Monica in the premiere episode. From there, it was clear that something happened back in Florida before they got back to Chicago, and we finally got some information. Pascal had been looking for a way to bring down a man in the firehouse connected to the mob.
Well, while that certainly suggests that Pascal wouldn’t be capable of murder, we also have to remember the temper that he has on him. Whenever someone hurt Monica or looked at her in the wrong way, Pascal was ready to fight, and that would suggest he is capable of murdering the man who was responsible for her death.
The problem for Severide is that he kept a lot quiet about Pascal throughout the penultimate episode, doing his own investigation. Now Van Meter has lost his trust, and it looks like Firehouse 51 could lose a chief and a lieutenant in the Chicago Fire season 13 finale.
Chief Pascal is pulled in for questioning in the Chicago Fire season 13 finale
The episode opens with Chief Pascal being pulled in for questioning. Sadly, it’s none of the Intelligence Unit questioning, which isn’t that surprising considering what happened to Intelligence in Chicago PD season 12, episode 21.
The detective doing the questioning shares that Pascal isn’t being arrested just yet, but shares that there’s a lot of compelling evidence that points to Pascal being the guilty party. One piece of evidence is how Pascal parked outside of Franklin’s house on three different occasions. It’s clear that the detective thinks he did it.
Back at Kidd and Severide’s place, we find out that Natalie stayed the night. This is a big sign that Kidd and Severide should legally take her in. However, that might not be too easy since Van Meter knocks on the door and makes it clear that Severide can be charged with accessory to murder after the fact, and Van Meter will take Severide down with Pascal. He’s angry that Severide hide this information, and I can’t really blame him.
Severide needs to help Pascal in Chicago Fire
Pascal apologizes for bringing Severide into the situation, but Severide is sure that Pascal didn’t do it. Vale confirmed that Pascal is a good firefighter, and it’s clear that Hendricks likely found out that Pascal was going after him and decided to get revenge. This will help his case against PD and OFI, and Pascal is allowed to keep working for now since he’s lawyered up.
The rest of the firehouse is worried about what’s going on with Pascal, but that’s not the main concern for us. One of the biggest concerns is how Carver reacted to Violet sharing she’s glad to see Carver finish his outpatient treatment and return. He’s hiding something, but what could that be?
Before we find out, Firehouse 51 is called out to a structure fire at a gun range. Firehouse 51 will need to work fast with ammo in there! Seeing the danger, Pascal leads everyone in, heading straight to the room with ammo that explodes everywhere. Fortunately, the victims are pulled out of the fire and Firehouse 51 can get to work putting the fire out. It’s a strong save.
Severide wasn’t at the call, so he can get to Bishop in jail. Severide is sure that Bishop told Hendricks something that tipped Hendricks off, and Bishop would know who Hendricks would hire in Chicago. This could allow Bishop to cut a deal, but does he hate Pascal more than he hates being in prison?
The problem is Severide can’t make a promise of a deal. He does take the information to the State’s Attorney office, though, and there is a chance that a deal could be made if a name turns up.
Kidd pays a visit to Natalie’s school
Kidd rushes to Natalie’s school when she calls from the principal’s office, which is when Kidd learns that Natalie has been caught smoking again. Natalie shares that Kidd is her guardian, and it’s clear that her sister doesn’t really care. As the principal says, this is a matter for DCFS, and it’s about time that Kidd realizes that Natalie is the child she’s supposed to bring in.
Meanwhile, Violet did notice that Carver was seeming off, and turns to Novak and Ritter about it. They point out that Violet likely feels closer to Carver because of the letter she wrote, so she decides to leave the letter on his windshield. It turns out that Carver is acting weird, and he’s made the decision to leave Chicago to be able to remain sober. He’s put in for a transfer to Denver, which gives us one storyline for a character exit in the Chicago Fire season 13 finale.
Back at Pascal’s place, the cops roll in with an arrest warrant. It’s hard not to hurt for him as Monica’s things are pushed around and a framed photo of Monica and Pascal is knocked to the floor and broken. Anyone who is in the middle of grieving will understand the way Pascal is feeling right now. It’s like he’s losing Monica all over again with her items being violated like this. I am more worried at his search history as the cops came knocking, as it looked like he was trying to buy the same item used in the arson attack in the previous episode.
Some of the names on Bishop’s list are promising, but Severide needs more. They need to find a way to connect everything back to Hendricks, and Monica’s relationship with Hendricks’s wife could be that clue. The rest of Firehouse 51 are getting antsy with the entire situation, especially being left in the dark after the arrest.
There’s still no time to get into details, though. Another call gets Firehouse 51 back out, this time with a man in the basement trapped under the furnace. The furnace knocked a support beam, which threatens the ceiling carving in, and that means Violet and Novak can’t stay to help the patient. However, he likely had a heart attack, so Violet has to talk Carver through it all from outside. Violet proves her knowledge as a paramedic and her trust in Carver despite the recent news of his transfer, telling him that he’ll need to get fluids into the patient via the leg, and that means drilling into the bone.
Carver’s actions are successful, getting the patient to being stable. This allows the rest of Firehouse 51 to get the furnace off the man and get them out.
Natalie’s sister pays a visit to Kidd
Julia comes into the firehouse to talk to Kidd, making it clear that she isn’t letting Natalie go without a fight. It turns out that her boyfriend was the one who said Natalie wasn’t welcome, and once Julia found out about this, she kicked him out. However, Julia is juggling a lot, but she will fight for her sister.
Kidd very quickly stops Julia as the talk of court comes up. Kidd isn’t taking Julia to court for custody of Natalie, as all she wants to do is help. And at this point I can accept that Kidd and Severide won’t take Natalie in because she does have a sister who loves her. That sister just has a hard time showing it.
Back with Pascal, he gets into his house to search for Monica’s old phone. What he doesn’t know is that it’s bad news from the State’s Attorney. Hendricks has pancreatic cancer and has been bedridden for months. However, Pascal clearly finds something on Monica’s phone, so who is trying to frame him?
Severide and Van Meter discuss Pascal’s case in the Chicago Fire season 13 finale
By the end of the episode, Van Meter isn’t as angry at Severide, and seems willing to listen. However, Severide doesn’t have anything just yet. It’s only as Van Meter keeps reminding Severide that this had to be done by a firefighter that he realizes who is behind it.

Chicago Fire season 13 ends with Carver kissing Violet and them declaring their love for each other. Just where can this relationship go with Carver leaving?
Meanwhile, Kidd has news for Severide. Not only are Natalie and Julia getting along and in the house, but Kidd shows a pregnancy test on the nightstand. Baby Stellaride is on the way in Chicago Fire season 14!
For once, Chicago Fire doesn’t end things on much of a major cliffhanger. There are stories of hope, but there is also the question of where things will go for Violet and Carver as well as how Ritter is being written out in Chicago Fire season 14.
