Diona Reasonover as Kasie Hines first appeared on NCIS season 15 as a graduate student hired by the late Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard as his assistant while he was writing a book. After Pauley Perrette left the series, Reasonover was promoted from guest star to series regular, taking over as Forensic Specialist from Abby Sciuto. She has remained in the role ever since. Before NCIS season 22 ended and season 23 aired in 2025, Reasonover spoke to CinemaBlend about what it was like to “own” Kasie, especially in her early years as the character.
In addition to sharing her experience in the latest episode of “Ladies Night,” now streaming on Paramount+, she also talked about how she first realized that Kasie and Abby’s former workspace had become “hers”:
“Unlike me, I think Kasie was very confident from the beginning. There were times when she was a little nervous, but she has a much stronger personality than I do. Kasie wasn’t afraid to be direct with Ducky… like in the scene where she tells him he has to finish the book and pushes him away. People are like, ‘Abby wouldn’t do that,’ and I’m like, ‘I know, but Kasie definitely would.’”
Kasie Hines has a different style and personality than Abby Sciuto, so if anyone expects her to be like Abby, they’re mistaken. As Reasonover says, Abby is often gentle with Ducky, while Kasie is more serious about pushing him to get things done. She added:
“I felt like I owned the role pretty quickly. It took me a while to get used to taking on such a big role, and I’m so grateful for all the contributions Pauley and the other characters have made NCIS so compelling.”
Kasie doesn’t play as loud music or drink as much Caf-Pow as Abby, but nearly a decade after her debut, she’s still an integral part of the team, helping solve cases in the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Outside of work, we saw Kasie playing video games with friends early in season 22, and in “Ladies Night,” she had a cute flirty moment with a bartender.
As NCIS season 22 comes to a close and season 23 continues to air on CBS in 2025, viewers will continue to see Kasie Hines shine with her analytical skills, dedication to her teammates, and decisiveness. The series currently airs Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET.
