We want to preface this by saying it’s never OK to start spreading rumors about someone. But sometimes, as we learned from General Hospital‘s Laura Wright (Carly), the rumors can be kind of… fun!
The actress joined Maurice Benard (Sonny), Finola Hughes (Anna), Tanisha Harper (Jordan), Cameron Mathison (Drew) and Donnell Turner (Curtis) for a trip to The Jennifer Hudson Show. They talked General Hospital, of course, reminisced about the late Leslie Charleson (Monica) and played some trivia about their characters – which you can check out in the clip below. (And talk amongst yourselves over whether Jason qualifies as an evil twin or not!)
But then Hudson asked the cast if anyone had a favorite rumor about themselves. And Wright knew right away what she wanted to share!
“One of my favorite rumors,” she explained, happened back in 2017. “Donnell and I, we were going to an Emmy party, and I said, ‘Are you going? Do you want to Uber or get a ride together?’ And he said, ‘I’m driving,’ so I ride with Donnell to the party. And that was on a Wednesday night.”
If you’ve been around the soap opera block long enough, we can pretty much guarantee you see where this is going already!
“On Saturday, there was a gifting suite for the Emmy Awards,” Wright continued. “I walk in, and Donnell runs up to me and he’s like, ‘I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. I don’t know how this happened.’ And I’m like, ‘What happened??’ And he goes, ‘There’s a rumor and an article going around that you and I are dating.'”
At this point, Wright just dropped her jaw in what can only be described as delighted surprise. All while Turned laughed behind her. “I go, ‘Oh my – thank you!!'” she continued. “And he’s like, ‘What, you’re not mad?’ I go, ‘Are you kidding me?! Look at you! No, I’m not mad! I’m newly single! We can feed those rumors, I don’t care!'”Honestly, can you blame her? Of course, Wright wasn’t single for very long, as that same year, she and General Hospital‘s former Peter, Wes Ramsey, started dating. And the rest, as they say, is history.
