Lorraine Bracco, best known for her roles in The Sopranos and Goodfellas, says embracing her natural grey hair has been a surprisingly freeing experience.
“Honestly, I stopped colouring it during Covid, and I had no idea what it was going to look like,” she told Yahoo Life. “People stop me in the street and ask me who colours it, and I say, ‘The guy upstairs.’”
Bracco, who stars in the new Netflix film Nonnas alongside Vince Vaughn, Susan Sarandon, Talia Shire, and Linda Cardellini, says the change hasn’t hurt her acting career at all. “So far, no,” she said about losing roles. “I always tell my agent to remind these people I have gray hair… and people have been very accepting.”
The shift has also been personally rewarding. “I feel like I have a lot of hours back,” she added. “I don’t have to go to the salon every three weeks. And I have an electric car, so I don’t have to go to the gas station.”
At 50, Bracco made a promise to herself to “have more fun” and live a healthier life. Now, she focuses on walking daily, eating well, getting enough sleep, and prioritizing her overall health. “I’m grateful to wake up. I’m happy. I’m healthy… That’s my No. 1 goal.”
Bracco joins a growing list of stars like Helen Mirren, Andie MacDowell, and Salma Hayek proudly embracing their grey hair, helping to redefine beauty standards for women in Hollywood.
