Golden Bachelor star April Kirkwood has made a public apology after claiming she tried to warn Theresa of Gerry Turner long before the Golden Wedding.
News of Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, the inaugural Golden Bachelor couple, splitting sent shockwaves through the fanbase and sparked major reactions.
Theresa summarised her feelings as she broke her Instagram silence with a Dr Suess quote saying: “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
In the comments, one of her former costars April Kirkwood declared: “I wish you the very best. I truly tried to tell you, but this was your lesson to experience. Much love!”
The holistic therapist quickly came under fire from fans accusing her of trying to make Theresa’s heartbreak about herself and branding the response “gross” and “shameful”.
Soon, the brutal backlash forced April to change her original comment, replacing it with an apology for her “error in judgement”.
She added: “I sincerely meant no ill will. I wish all women only peace and power to be their best selves. This was not one for me. Much love and gratitude for understanding.”
Other fans shared their sympathies with Theresa as she poured her heart out into the caption, summarising her emotions during her very public breakup.
The 70-year-old thanked her fans, family and A-list pals for the “love, support and kindness” she has received since making her bombshell announcement alongside Gerry Turner on Good Morning America earlier this month.
She added, extending a sympathetic hand to viewers who had been on the journey alongside her from the start: “For everyone else who is confused and angry and who does not understand, please try to find it in your heart to understand and to try a little kindness.”
Theresa assured that she still reflects on her part in the Golden Bachelor as “one of the most incredible experiences of my life” and assured fans that when she told Gerry she would marry him, she “truly thought it was going to last forever”.
“I take so many positives away from this experience, most importantly and above all the incredible friends I now have in all of these amazing, wonderful women and in Angie and Jenny, Payton and Charlee, the producers, the production crew and so many of you,” she added, showcasing her signature brand of optimism.
Theresa signed off by urging fans to keep their minds “open to all experiences, opportunities and love” noting that she will.
