Fire Country’ Spin-Off Surprise — Morena Baccarin Reveals What Makes Mickey Fox Truly Dangerous

When Fire Country returns next fall, fans will have something extra to look forward to. The already highly anticipated spin-off series Sheriff Country will start the expansion of the franchise, with Morena Baccarin (Deadpool & Wolverine) in the lead. During a recent interview, the star talked a bit about the starting point of the new series and her approach to Mickey Fox, a character that we’ve already met a couple of times in the mothership series Fire Country.

During the interview with TV Insider, Baccarin talked about the set-up of Sheriff Country. Since she will be a police officer in a small town, she’s bound to have to deal with the crimes of people she’s known her whole life. In that scenario, it will be interesting to see how Mickey is able to navigate each case and find the best resolution for it. She stated:

“I’m really interested in the relationships she has with the other people in town. She grew up with them. She knows exactly who they are, but now she’s on the other side of the law from a lot of the people she grew up with. And a lot of them are going to get into trouble, and she’s going to have to use compassion and her knowledge of who they are to sometimes get them to obey or stand down.”

Also during the interview, Baccarin stated that she feels like Sheriff Country is “darker” and “a little edgier” than Fire Country because police cases tend to touch on more sensitive subjects like addiction and illegal activities. We’ve already seen a bit of it in Fire Country – in her last guest appearance on the show, Mickey dealt with her father, Wes (W. Earl Brown), who runs an illegal marijuana business. Adding to the way she expects Mickey to handle cases, Baccarin revealed that one of the pros of knowing the entire town is that it gives her a secret weapon that she will be able to use in different scenarios:

“The pros are that when you roll up to a scene that’s a heated argument between two people that you’ve gone to high school with, you can say, ‘Hey, remember that time your girlfriend dumped you? Whose shoulder did you cry on? That guy right there that you’re fighting with.’”

Aside from Baccarin, the cast of Sheriff Country also features Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty), Matt Lauria (CSI: Vegas), Michelle Weaver (The Pitt), Caroline Rhea (Holiday Mismatch), and Amanda Arcuri (Fingernails).

Sheriff Country will air back-to-back with new Fire Country episodes this fall.
