Found in a Porta-Potty, This Starving Pup Turned Out to Be a Wiggly Angel

A malnourished puppy recently found abandoned inside a portable toilet is preparing for a fresh start.

An employee from Fort Wayne’s Right-of-Way Department found the 8-week-old canine discarded in the outdoor restroom in late April, according to a Facebook post from Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control (FWACC), where the abandoned pup ended up after his rescue from the toilet.

“This sweet boy was malnourished with his rib cage and spine showing, had urine-stained paws and overgrown nails, and was quite scared,” FWACC shared in its Facebook statement about the puppy’s condition when he arrived at the shelter.

The post also contained several photos of the young pup gazing curiously into the camera while surrounded by chew toys and a shot of how the city employee found the canine inside the portable toilet.

“Our medical team examined his overall health, and the main concern was getting him to a healthy weight. A slow feeding plan was created in order to not disrupt his digestive system. In the meantime, our staff members provided him with the gentle love and care he deserves,” FWACC continued.

The organization also shared how the rescued puppy adjusted to his new surroundings.

“This precious boy has been a little wiggly angel despite being failed by the person that was supposed to care for him. Once his excitement for you calms down, he loves curling up in your warm lap. What a testament to how forgiving animals can be,” the post continued.

According to the social media post, after the puppy’s rescue, he was placed in a “loving foster home where he can gain weight and be a happy puppy surrounded by loving humans and foster dog siblings to learn from.”

FWACC did not share when the dog would be available for adoption.

On Friday, May 3, FWACC gave an update on the pup, saying that the good boy “had a great first day in his foster home!”

“One thing is missing…he needs a name!” the agency added, asking Facebook users to chime in with suggestions.

On Saturday, May 4, FWACC shared the chosen name.

“The puppy that was found abandoned in a porta-potty now has a name…Louie! The name translates to ‘famous warrior,'” FWACC announced.

The shelter thanked the more than 300 people who pitched in with possible names for the pup.

“We are overwhelmed and grateful for everyone’s support and love for this sweet boy,” FWACC wrote.

“If you want to help animals like Louie, we couldn’t help without donations to our Angel Fund. You can donate today on our website,” FWACC concluded its update post on Louie.
