The Golden Bachelorette could get a major shake-up now that Golden Bachelor’s Gerry and Theresa are getting a divorce.
Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s shocking divorce announcement could have some major implications for the Golden Bachelorette spin-off show that ABC plans to air this Fall.
ABC had confirmed they planned to film the female-led version of the Golden Bachelor spin-off and air it this fall after the show became a rating success.
Fans quickly began trying to guess who of Gerry’s exes could potentially be cast as the lead, assuming the series followed the same pattern as the regular show, which usually makes the lead of a new season someone who was rejected on the sister show.
While most were expecting that either Leslie Fhima, Faith Martin, Susan Noles or Joan Vassos could be named in the role, that could now be changed.
Despite marrying Gerry, the divorce could now throw Theresa in the mix.
After confirming their split on Good Morning America, both she and Gerry admitted that while they loved one another, a divorce was best because of where their lives were settled.
They both also expressed that they were willing to still try and find love again after their split as well, with Theresa and Gerry both answering “yes” when asked if they would continue looking for romance.
If Theresa is going to be single again, and open to love, it could make her a prime candidate as the Golden Bachelorette lead.
Because the two had signed a prenup and didn’t have communal property, the divorce will likely be a quick process–meaning she could be single again before the show would film.
If ABC did approach Theresa to be the Golden Bachelorette, she wouldn’t be the first lead who had actually won a season of a preceding Bachelor show to take the role.
Jen Scheft, who led the third season, had previously won season three of The Bachelor, but she and Andrew Firestone ended their engagement in 2003. Season 8’s lead, Emily Maynard, who Brad Womack’s second season as a Bachelor lead, but they also split after the show came to an end.
Becca Kufrin, who led Season 14, was the original winner of Arie Luyendyk Jr’s season, but he ended things with her shortly after to pursue a relationship with his runner-up, Lauren Burnham.
Time will tell if Theresa could return to searching for love on TV.
