A Golden Bachelor contestant stepped up to defend Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s honor following their public split announcement after only being married for three months.
Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s journey ended in a decision to divorce just three months post their Golden Bachelor TV wedding.
The news broke on Good Morning America, where the pair shared the development with viewers.
Following the announcement, Golden Bachelor contestant Kathy Swarts took to Instagram, where she advocated for kindness towards Gerry and Theresa.
She vouched for their character, calling them “great people” whose relationship simply didn’t last.
Her plea for empathy underscored the complexity of finding love in the public eye.
Kathy expressed her sorrow over Gerry and Theresa’s split and said, “It is sad, it is tragic. Please people be kind. These are our friends. The love didn’t work out, but they’re great people. Our hearts are breaking for them.”
Gerry and Theresa’s wedding officiant, Susan Noles, shared a message of support alongside Kathy.
Susan encouraged fans to stay positive and supportive. She also believed in the authenticity of the couple’s love, hoping for the best in their future endeavors.
Gerry cited a fundamental disagreement about their living arrangements as the main reason for their split.
Despite efforts to reconcile their preferences for Indiana and New Jersey, respectively, the Golden Bachelor couple couldn’t bridge this gap.
Gerry promptly filed for divorce following the announcement on GMA.
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, and so forth, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” Gerry explained.
While Kathy and Susan showed their support for the couple, not everyone reacted with the same warmth.
Faith Martin, a fellow contestant, pondered if Gerry and Theresa had asked the critical questions before marrying.
“My heart goes out to both of them,” Faith shared with People. “It’s a very difficult situation, and I think it is important to realize that on a show like this, it’s so important to be so transparent and so much yourself filled with honesty and truth and ask those right questions.”
On a lighter note, April Lynn Kirkwood shared her amusement over the unfolding drama,
“POV watching drama you’re not involved in unfold around you,” she wrote.
