Hetty and Trevor Sitting in a Tree? ‘Ghosts’ Showrunners Hint at Romance in Season 5!

Ghosts Season 4 has come to a close. After 22 episodes of laughs and undead shenanigans, we’ve been left on the edge of our seats awaiting the return of Season 5 this fall. While the main cliffhanger revolves around the fate of Jay’s (Utkarsh Ambudkar) soul after he signed a contract with Elias (Matt Walsh), who has upgraded his afterlife status to Demon, we’re still curious about what’s in store for the rest of our favorite characters. As far as relationships go, Season 4 took our ghosts all over the map — literally! Pete (Richie Moriarty) continued his romance with Donna (Allegra Edwards) only to later break up with her in the finale, now that his long-time crush, Alberta (Danielle Pinnock), is interested in being with him.

Sass (Román Zaragoza) finally found love with another roaming ghost named Joan (Taylor Ortega), a screenwriter from the 1940s. Thor (Devan Chandler Long) and Flower (Sheila Carrasco) are still going strong and inviting the rest of the house to watch them smash. Nigel (John Hartman) and Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) began to mend their broken connection after Season 3’s shocking finale. And Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky) and Trevor (Asher Grodman) took their relationship to a whole new level: Power Friends.

Ghosts showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman recently sat down with Collider to discuss Season 4 and to tease what we can expect in Seasons 5 and 6 now that the series has scored a double pickup for the next two seasons. When asked about the future of Hetty and Trevor, Wiseman told Collider:

“Yeah, I think short term, they’re going to remain sort of like “power friends” and, you know, long term, could there be something there? It’s very possible. We noticed online there’s a lot of people who are very vocal about wanting to get them back together, which is nice. So we’ll just sort of see, we’re not going to push anything, but that is something that is very possible down the road.“

What Have Rebecca Wisocky and Asher Grodman Said About H-Money?

Rebecca Wisocky spoke to Collider earlier this season and was delighted to discuss “H-Money,” as they’ve been dubbed by the fandom. “First of all, I’m so happy, and I feel personally gratified that there are so many H-Money/Tretty shippers out there who are so invested in their relationship,” she said. She went on to praise the fans who catch all the little moments she and Grodman have infused into a scene, saying:

“And yeah, they really do read between the lines with every little look that we give one another or how close we’re standing next to one another. Asher Grodman and I have had so much fun talking about the relationship and where it can go. Both of us enjoy the parts of it that are about competition and conniving a plot. They’re so very different, and yet they’re so similar as creatures. So, I’m very happy that the fans are invested in seeing more of them together.“

If you’re wondering how intentional those background choices are, Grodman previously told Tell-Tale TV that he and Wisocky are always looking for ways to draw this story out, saying that after they breakdown a scene on set, “Rebecca [Wisocky] and I will find each other and say, ‘Okay, now what are we doing here?’ Even in scenes that we’re in the periphery, we are finding moments and crafting things, just as little morsels to trace this story along.” Speaking with Collider a few weeks ago, Grodman thanked Wiseman and Port for “for being down to clown with us” regarding the dynamic he and Wisocky had been pitching from the beginning of the series. He went on to say:

“For us, it was never about romance, really. I mean that may be where it ends up, but it was all the other stuff that’s so exciting — their egos, their pride, how they think about money, and so they have a hierarchy in life. In those, they’re so similar. And yet when it comes to sex and how they see the world in terms of what should be allowed, what should not be allowed, they’re very different. There’s just so much room for conflict. It’s a very combustible relationship. The idea of them colluding against each other and then colluding with each other, and there’s just so much pent-up passion in both of these characters, it’s so fun to play.”
