Who’s Leaving Next? Fans Have a Gut Feeling After Chicago Med Season 10 Finale

Gaffney Chicago Medical Center continues to be a busy place where lives are saved, the doctors deal with personal drama every day, and there is always a lot on the line. Chicago Med has delivered consistently compelling and entertaining episodes since the medical series premiered in 2015, and season 10 has been particularly great.

As fans get ready for the next episode of Chicago Med, which airs on May 14th, 2025, they’re also anticipating the season 10 finale, which is sure to be chaotic and surprising. While it’s exciting that some characters are returning, it’s also possible that some of Gaffney’s best and most determined doctors could say goodbye.

Could Any Characters Leave After The Chicago Med Season 10 Finale?

On May 5th, 2025, Deadline reported that every One Chicago show was renewed for another seasonChicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med. The publication reported that not every cast member will be in every episode, and some might be left out of two, three, or four episodes. Deadline also noted that sources say “other One Chicago departures are possible.”

Fans are curious if any characters could leave after the Chicago Med season 10 finale and are predicting who could go in a Reddit thread. Redditor @kmsan2012 wrote:

“I’ve had a gut feeling since the beginning of this season that Marlyne might be leaving and now with her upcoming storylines, I wouldn’t be surprised if she does.”

Another fan agreed that perhaps Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) will go. Maggie plays a significant role in Chicago Med season 10, episode 19, “The Stories We Tell Ourselves” when she and Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) are on opposite sides of the hospital’s nursing union negotiations. Now that a deal has been reached, perhaps Maggie would rethink her life and career and decide it’s time to move on. Hopefully, she would come back at least sometimes. Fans would miss her caring and perceptive personality.

Redditor @ktvrny posted that perhaps Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) or Dr. Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell) will leave. Redditor @C0nnectionTerminat3d agreed that these character exits would make sense and that Ripley hasn’t had weighty storylines lately as he and Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) have broken up. Since Dr. Charles’s mother needs medical attention at the end of the latest Chicago Med season 10 episode, some viewers think that could lead to his departure. Maybe his mom passes away, and he quits his job or takes a leave of absence so he can travel the world and have some fun after working hard at the hospital for so many years.

Chicago Fire's Joe Minoso Shades Chicago Med's Steven Weber

“I could see Goodwin stepping down to recurring character. Like they did with Bodin, they could have her come in from time to time if the story called for it.”

The fan mentioned Chicago Fire character Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker), who quit his job in the season 12 finale. Fans expect to see him from time to time as Walker is no longer a series regular but he hasn’t left the series for good. It would be terrible if Goodwin left Chicago Med because in many ways, she’s the heart and soul of Gaffney. If Merkerson left, fans would hope to see Goodwin in at least a few episodes every season. Throughout Chicago Med season 10, Goodwin has survived a stalker and also dealt with drama in her love life, and she’s been compassionate and smart the whole time.

Some Of The Saddest Chicago Med Character Exits

Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) were two of the most popular Chicago Med characters, which is why it was so moving to see them both depart. Natalie is fired in the Chicago Med season 6 finale, and she has a complex character arc, like Dr. Frank Langdon in The Pitt season 1. While Natalie steals medication and of course can’t stay at her job, she wanted to help her sick mother, which adds a layer of compassion to the storyline. When Will leaves in season 8, he moves to Chicago, and fans can assume that Natalie and Will have gotten back together.

It was also a shame when Brian Tee, who played Dr. Ethan Choi, left in 2022. However, Ethan departs for an emotional and memorable reason: to start a mobile clinic that will help people without money or resources. Fans remain hopeful that every former Chicago Med cast member can come back to Gaffney at some point.
