Elsbeth Tascioni at Woodstone B&B? One can only hope!
For fans of Elsbeth and Ghosts, there is reason to believe that a crossover may be on the horizon for the two breakout CBS shows — the former is set in New York and follows an intrepid consent decree lawyer (Carrie Preston) who assists the NYPD in solving murders while the ladder sees a couple living in a B&B inhabited by ghosts in New York’s Hudson Valley.
For their overlap in quirky characters, hilarious punchlines, and the obvious connection they have with Elsbeth dealing with dead bodies in her titular show and Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) dealing with the phantasm versions in Ghosts. Chatting with DECIDER about their respective season finales, Ambudkar said it’s not the first time it’s been brought up by the viewers.
“I literally was talking to him [Tolins] last night about this. Last night, I was like, ‘Hey man, the crossover is coming, they’ve got to put us together,’ And he was like, ‘I guess you’re right,” Ambudkar said in a conversation over Zoom. “It’s a match made in heaven.”
The one and only issue that could get in the way of making this work? Distance, of course. Elsbeth films in New York and welcomes a rotating cast of guest stars for each episode while Ghosts shoots in Montreal, Québec. Additionally, since both shows air from fall to late spring, they film around the same time, making a crossover more difficult to pull off.
Ambudkar still has hope, though. “I think the worlds could really fit. And they do such a great job of casting, as well […] And I think it would be awesome. We shoot in different countries. But if there’s a way to make it work, if they’ll come up to Montreal, we’ve got great food.”
Similarly, Elsbeth creator Jonathan Tolins — who talked about the show’s Season 2 finale alongside Preston — said that he has heard the cries from the fans. The writer and producer mentioned that if it’s not Ghosts, some fans and CBS watchers have also suggested Matlock as a potential option for crossover since the Kathy Bates series is also set in the Big Apple.
“At this point, I believe our show can do just about anything. I love my writer’s room so much. They’re such a fabulous, interesting, smart, sensitive group of people. They can handle any challenge we throw at the room,” Tolins said.
“They’ll come up with a really fun episode and I know our cast and our crew can achieve miracles,” Tolins continued, adding, “So I’m certainly open to anything.”
Where there’s a will, there’s a way! And we are hopeful that they can pull this off.
