The season 4 finale of the spooky sitcom ended with a “huge surprise” for the ghost gang
Things are staying spooky at Woodstone Manor.
Since its debut in 2021, Ghosts has been haunting screens with its scarily good blend of humor, horror and heart.
Season 4 continued to expand the paranormal world of Ghosts, with the funny phantoms developing new powers, the introduction of even more specters roaming the Woodstone grounds — and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), finally able to see the ghosts his wife, Sam (Rose McIver) is always speaking with.
“For me as an actor, it will be so nice to be able to make eye contact with my co-workers for the first time. I mean it’s pretty cool,” Ambudkar said at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, when his character’s new ghostly vision was revealed.
The season 4 finale on May 8 featured Sam and Jay throwing a book launch party for Sam and Isaac’s (Brandon Scott Jones) historical vampire novel. But as usual, the ghosts created chaos, and the episode ended with a cliffhanger.
With so many characters and plots (burial and story-wise), the CBS series is lively for a show about the dead. Here’s everything we know so far about season 5 of Ghosts.
Will there be a season 5 of Ghosts?
Yes, Ghosts has been renewed for seasons 5 and 6. This will take the series through at least the 2026-2027 season.
After the news was announced on Feb. 20, Ghosts star Danielle Pinnock (who plays Alberta) celebrated on X.
“I am bawling so hard right now. Being able to have TWO YEARS of guaranteed work in this climate as an actor is a rarity and a blessing,” she wrote. “Grateful to be on @GhostsCBS and to be working with the best cast, crew, writers, showrunners, and producers on Broadcast TV.”
On Instagram, McIver added, “Cant believe how lucky I am to keep making this show. Enormous thanks to @cbstv and all our cast and crew and the writing team headed by @joeport and @emailwiseman and huge thanks to everyone who watches. We are so grateful.”
Ambudkar shared the same headline on his account, and simply captioned it, “44 more episodes of @ghostscbs!”
Cast member Asher Grodman (who portrays Trevor Lefkowitz) also rejoiced, writing on the social media platform, “TWO more seasons of GHOSTS coming your way and two more years of working with my friends! Thank you to all the incredible people who make this show possible and who make it a joy to shoot everyday.”
Roman Zaragoza (who plays Sasappis) echoed the same sentiment. “I’m beyond grateful for this show and this amazing team. @ghostscbs fully changed my life and I feel beyond blessed to be on this journey with my 👻 fam,” he penned on Instagram.
When will Ghosts season 5 premiere?
A premiere date for Ghosts season 5 has not been announced.
Season 4 debuted on Oct. 17, 2024, and if the next installment follows a similar release, new episodes could arrive in time for things to get spooky before Halloween.
Which cast members are returning for Ghosts season 5?
It hasn’t been confirmed which Ghosts ghosts will be coming back for season 5.
The core cast is made up of McIver, Ambudkar, Jones, Pinnock, Grodman, Zaragoza, Sheila Carrasco, Richie Moriarty, Devan Chandler Long and Rebecca Wisocky.
Other recurring cast members include John Hartman as Nigel Chessum, Betsy Sodaro as Nancy, Caroline Aaron as Carol and Matt Walsh as Elias Woodstone.
In season 4, Patience, the judgmental Puritan ghost, played by Mary Holland, was introduced, as well as Taylor Ortega as Joan, a screenwriter spirit from the 1940s.
While speaking with Collider in April 2025, Zaragoza said he hoped the show would reveal how his character, Sass, died in a future season.
“I think that’s a big piece that we’re still missing, and I would love for it to be something so ridiculous that he’s been hiding it for so long,” he added. “Like, he’s been telling a story, and it turns out that story is completely false, and it’s actually something else incredibly embarrassing.”
