Asher won’t be in Chicago Med season 10 episode 20, but she will be on Chicago Fire!

Chicago Med fans are likely to pick up quite quickly on the fact that Jessy Schram is MIA in the latest episode of NBC’s recently renewed medical drama. Sadly, Schram’s Dr. Hannah Asher will not be appearing in episode 20, “The Invisible Hand,” as it seems it was simply one of the season’s episodes that the creative team felt they could do without the character. This has become a growing trend within the One Chicago shows, with series regulars missing 2-4 episodes each season.

As confirmed by NBC Insider ahead of the episode’s broadcast, Schram does not appear in the show’s May 7 episode, and it’s nothing elaborate that keeps Hannah away for the episode.

Via a line early in the episode, Maggie informs Ripley that Asher is out for the day, having called in sick. Unfortunately, she’s not the only one calling in sick at Gaffney as the E.D. is also hit with a sickout as the nurses make their displeasure known in the ongoing hospital negotiations, which took a turn for the worse in the previous episode.

The good news is that Hannah will be back in time for the penultimate episode of the season, where she’ll receive word that she can become a surrogate for her sister should she indeed like to proceed with that course of action. And while we might have to wait to see Asher back in action on Chicago Med, fans can look forward to seeing Asher on another One Chicago show this week, thanks to a guest spot on Chicago Fire!

Interestingly, while Asher will not appear in episode 20 of Chicago Med, she will appear in the twentieth episode of Chicago Fire, airing on May 7.

Schram will guest star in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 20, “Cut Me Open,” which will see Severide and Kidd meeting with a potential mother about adoption. It seems only fitting that Gaffney’s beloved OBGYN will be crossing paths with Kidd and Severide at the hospital as the couple meets with the mother of the baby they’re hoping to adopt. We love it when the One Chicago writers come up with natural crossovers, and it’s fun to see Asher dropping in as the mother’s doctor rather than a random extra playing an OBGYN at Gaffney!

While we’d love to have seen Asher in both Chicago Med and Chicago Fire on May 7, we’re happy to know we’ll get to at least see her appearing in some capacity this week during the One Chicago lineup! Her guest spot on Chicago Fire will be a real treat and a perfect way to bridge the gap between Chicago Med episodes as we wait for her return in the penultimate episode on May 14!

Don’t miss new episodes of Chicago Med and Chicago Fire, Wednesdays at 8/7c and 9/8c, respectively.
