Happy Valentine’s Day, Bridgerton fans.
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Netflix dropped the first teaser trailer for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and shared the premiere date for the highly-anticipated Bridgerton sequel. The prequel will tell the story of Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence, and the early days of her marriage to King George.
And fortunately for fans, the show is just around the corner. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will drop on Netflix on May 4, 2023.
During the virtual event, which featured India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest, who portrayed young Queen Charlotte and young King George, respectively, and Arsema Thomas, who played young Lady Danbury, the cast discussed their characters and gave a spoiler-free preview of what fans can expect from the series. The young stars were joined by Golda Rosheuvel, who reprized her role as Regency-era Queen Charlotte, Adjoa Andoh, who played Lady Danbury, and Ruth Gemmell, who played Violet Bridgerton.
In watching the panel, it’s clear this cast has a good time together—there was plenty of banter and gentle teasing, but close to the end of the conversation, Amarteifio gave a heartfelt answer to a question about what she hopes will take away from the series.
“All of us put so much love, just a lot of time and energy and…we gave everything to this and we just hope that if at least one person away comes feeling some kind of emotion—whether it’s happiness, sadness, joy , whatever it is—for me at least, I’ll feel fulfilled,” she said. “Because if we can evoke some kind of emotion and tell some kind of story and it resonates with someone and someone feels seen and someone feels valued and spoken for, then I think that’s all that we can do as actors.”
Filming on the show wrapped in August 2022, while production is still ongoing for season three of Bridgerton. Therefore, it only makes sense that we’re getting the Queen Charlotte spin-off before the third season returns to Netflix. While we wait, it’s time to re-watch Bridgerton for the thousandth time.
