Exclusive: ‘The Rookie’ Boss Confirms Where Chenford’s Story is Heading!

Since their infamous breakup in The Rookie Season 6, Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) have been slowly getting back together. The former lovers have been improving themselves to address the core problems in their relationship, and now that some changes have been made, they are ready to dive back in. In The Rookie Season 7, Episode 15, “A Deadly Secret,” Lucy admits while on a truth serum that she had forgiven Tim for breaking her trust. Showrunner Alexi Hawley told TV Insider that this was a major step in the couple’s journey back together. “Throughout the season up until this point, we have been heading in that direction [of getting them back together],” the showrunner said. He discussed how Lucy’s admission that he’d forgiven Tim marks a huge change, saying:

“I do think her moment of realizing that she has now fully forgiven him is sort of the most important moment that happens there, because along the way, even though they’ve ended up in bed together a few times, even though it’s felt like it’s returned to normal, I think underneath it all, he still really broke her heart and it has taken this long for her to finally forgive him. And I just thought to have that realization have happened when they’re both under the influence of sodium pentothal and make it more of a discovery for her as well was super fun.”

What’s Next for Lucy and Tim in ‘The Rookie’ Season 7?

In Tuesday’s episode, Lucy takes on something big that could change her life. “The team has mixed feelings when a familiar face returns hoping to prove himself. Meanwhile, an influencer gets his fans to come after Wesley (Shawn Ashmore), and Tim supports Lucy as she prepares for the sergeant’s exam,” reads the official logline for The Rookie Season 7, Episode 16, “The Return.” Passing this exam would change the dynamics in Lucy and Tim’s relationship. “A lot of it does focus on the sergeant’s exam because that in a lot of ways is sort of the final obstacle to wherever this is going to go. And so yeah, I would say that’s the focus is a lot gets hung on that, and then what follows,” said Hawley. There will be a waiting period before the results are out, but viewers will know if Lucy made the cut before the season ends.
