“Tracker” Season 2 Finale: The Jaw-Dropping Twist That Changes Everything

A little over a year ago, the CBS series Tracker came out of nowhere to become the most watched network TV show of 2024, and for good reason. Developed by Ben H. Winters and starring Justin Hartley, the series is a throwback to the thrillers of yesteryear where a lone wolf rides into town to save the day. The difference is that Hartley’s character of Colter Shaw actually has some depth to him, and is more than just a one-dimensional macho savior. With the series set to conclude its second season on May 11, Hartley teased that it’s those layers to Shaw that viewers will get to see more of as we head toward the finale.

Let’s be real—Tracker has had us on the edge of our seats since the pilot. Twists, cliffhangers, and mind-bending puzzles? Check. But nothing has stirred fan theories quite like the central mystery that’s been haunting us for two seasons straight. Now, one of the show’s stars has spilled just enough tea to send the fandom spiraling… in the best way possible. In this article, we’re diving deep into what was teased, what it could mean, and how the season 2 finale might finally deliver the answers we’ve been dying for.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about all things Tracker, Hartley touched on the last five episodes of Season 2, two of which have already aired. The remaining three are set to wrap up the series’ sophomore outing, and will thankfully air without interruption, meaning there are no more breaks and fans can expect a new one each week until it’s done. “You are going to get the last five episodes in a row,” Hartley said. “So, you’re getting five separate sort of movies. We call them little movies.”

We like movies, especially ones that have some mystery to them, and Tracker certainly has that in spades. One of the big questions on our minds has always been what really happened to Shaw’s father, Ashton. Who killed him, and how? According to Hartley, it seems as if we’re finally going to get some answers, though don’t expect that to be the end of the story:

“As we’re inching closer to the end of the season, we creep closer and closer to the mystery of what the hell happened to Colter’s father. How did he die? Was there in fact another man in the woods? Did he get pushed; did he get killed? Was it an accident? What the hell is going on with that? I end up with this box that’s been talked about and Dory, my sister (Melissa Roxburgh), brings it to me. And now that I have it, does he go through with it? Does he go through with it and open up that box? Does he want to go down that rabbit hole? He gets a lot of clues and a lot of details about what happened to his father, and who was actually involved. And to see the damage I think is an incredible payoff.”

We’re days away from Tracker Season 2’s finale, and if the teasers are true, everything’s about to change. Whether you’ve been following since episode one or just got pulled into the storm, now’s the time to tune in, rewatch, theorize, and prepare. The mystery might not just be solved—it might flip the whole series on its head.
