Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist recently announced their divorce. The issue that lead to their split could also be a problem for the future Golden Bachelorette.
Since the news of Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s divorce announcement, there’s been more questions about the future of the show.
The Golden Bachelor couple announced their split Friday after only three months of marriage. The couple had been living apart in their separate cities: Gerry in Indiana and Theresa in New Jersey.
The pair had been making public appearances as a couple, but many fans didn’t buy their union.
On the show, it appeared the couple had worked out their living situation, potentially moving to South Carolina. But the move never ended up happening.
Some fans are curious about the state of the spinoff, the Golden Bachelorette, which is scheduled to air this fall. Most were expecting favorites from the season like Leslie Fhima, Faith Martin, Susan Noles or Joan Vassos to be named to the role.
Now, Theresa’s name could be in the mix.
Others are more worried about the future of the show. Lorianne Palinkas wrote for Screen Rant one of the things that was most exciting about the Golden Bachelor was that Gerry, 72, and Theresa, 70, got married right away.
The younger participants on The Bachelor or Bachelorette, usually have long engagements that many times end in a break up. The Golden Bachelor contestants, however, are older and seemingly more inclined to know what they want.
Palinkas wrote: “Gerry and Theresa didn’t appear to be on the show to gain social media followers and become influencers, or to further their careers. Instead, it seemed that Gerry and Theresa were really ready for marriage, and they proved it by tying the knot right away.”
Now that the marriage has failed, however, it could be a red flag for the Golden Bachelorette. That’s because one issue that the show won’t be able to avoid is location.
Unlike the Bachelor and Bachelorette, contestants on the Golden Bachelor likely have children and grandchildren. That means moving to a new city for their fiance will be a more difficult decision, as they already have strong roots in one location.
iewers may not be able to trust the contestants are in it for the right reasons, as well.
“It’s easy to imagine that the Golden Wedding was planned not to genuinely celebrate Gerry and Theresa’s love, but instead to create a television spectacle to keep the momentum of the show’s high ratings going and take advantage of them,” Palinkas said.
Hopefully the show can work out those kinks in order to continue with the franchise. The show was inspiring to watch, as long as it can last.
