A Heartbreaking Turn: The Grey’s/Station 19 Crossover That Left Fans Speechless

One of the Station 19 team ends up at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

Station 19 fans were left reeling after Thursday’s crossover episodes with Grey’s Anatomy in the US.

The crossover event – which started with Grey’s Anatomy‘s 23rd episode of the season and concluded with Station 19’s 15th episode of the season – largely followed Lucas Ripley (Brett Tucker) as he was admitted to hospital, having collapsed outside a flower shop.

Despite the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital doctors not knowing yet what’s wrong with him, Ripley ends the Grey’s Anatomy hour ill-advisedly discharging himself so he can find Vic Hughes (Barrett Doss) so he can accept her marriage proposal.

However, in the Station 19 episode, his health takes a turn for the worse as Dr Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCleary) realises that he was poisoned with hydrofluoric acid while on the job.

The diagnosis unfortunately comes too late. Although he returned to hospital, Maggie couldn’t do anything – and just moments after saying yes to Vic, he dies.

Doss, who plays Vic, told TVGuide.com that it was emotional behind the scenes.

“When we did the table read of this episode, we all lost it a little bit. It was very emotional, but it was also one of the most satisfying ways to end [this storyline],” she said.

“If we had to end the story, we might as well end it on a high note or on the lowest note you could ever reach. It was very sad.”

Danielle Savre, who plays Maya Bishop, previously told Digital Spy that fans would “cry a lot” watching the crossover.

“We all cried while filming it. It’s going to be a rough, rough couple of episodes to watch,” she said earlier this year. “If people aren’t crying, I’m going to think that there’s something wrong with them because it’s so emotionally going to pull at people’s heartstrings.”

She wasn’t wrong.

Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 airs on ABC in the US and on Sky Witness in the UK.
