Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim (Eric Winter) have tried a lot of temporary fixes to make their relationship work, and in The Rookie Season 7, Episode 14, “Mad About Murder,” they work on another that seems a bit more permanent. But working in a place full of detectives, someone sniffs it out. Meanwhile, Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Bailey (Jenna Dewan) are shocked by Malvado’s (Jimmy Gonzalez) return as he kills someone new, and they’re concerned he might be after them. “Tim receives a strange message, launching a larger investigation into the dark web. Meanwhile, Celina (Lisseth Chavez) works to take down a popular podcast, and Miles (Deric Augustine) helps update the department’s training videos,” reads the logline for the episode airing on Tuesday, April 15. ABC released a sneak peek of the episode, previewing Detective Lopez’s (Alyssa Diaz) theory about Lucy and Tim’s plan and Malvado’s return.
The video below features a conversation between Tim and Lopez, revealing that Lucy is taking the sergeant’s exam. “So you two can get back together,” she says. If Lucy makes sergeant, it would put her and Tim on the same professional level, and the questionable ethics of their relationship would decrease significantly. “That would be a good move for a career,” Tim responds, trying to keep the smokescreen up, but Lopez doesn’t buy it for one second. A saying goes that when you lie with dogs, you are bound to catch fleas, and Bailey lay with a dog named Malvado. She teamed up with the hitman to take out her ex-husband, but now Malvado’s back, and he’s still killing. A serious conflict develops when he kills Nolan’s suspect, but based on what Bailey did, Malvado could blackmail Nolan for his silence. Or, he could kill them too.
The Next Storm Comes for Nolan and Bailey in ‘The Rookie’ Season 7
The season has been full of ups and downs for Nolan and Bailey. Malvado’s return teases the next down for them as it will put Nolan in a tough place morally and professionally. While Fillion thinks Nolan and Bailey have a healthy relationship, “It’s not always smooth,” he said. He also teased some issues coming for them. “I think there’s a surface [issue] there that I was expecting, and I think what’s really going on runs a little deeper,” he said. Having a hitman set their sight on you would be a deep issue. “The great thing about both of them is that they continue throughout the episodes coming up to keep taking accountability for their side of things,” Dewan said, teasing some good news. They might weather the latest challenge if they remain honest and accountable.
Tune in to ABC on Tuesday, April 15, to watch “Mad About Murder,” and see how Malvado’s return affects them.
