Ghosts season 4 gets an optimistic update from co-lead Utkarsh Ambudkar. The hit sitcom recently returned from its winter break to continue the rest of Ghosts season 4. That has included episodes focused on Flower, while also placing a spotlight on Ambudkar through exploring Jay’s aspirations and his bond with Sass. There are several more episodes to go, including episodes centered on Hetty and Issac, though the show has yet to be renewed by CBS.
In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Joe Deckelmeier at the 2025 WGA Awards, Ambudkar struck an optimistic tone about the future of Ghosts. The actor discussed the show’s popularity with viewers, touching on why the sitcom has resonated thanks to its humor and ability to maintain a bit of an edge. In the quote, which is included below, Ambudkar concludes by saying: “We’ll do it for as long as you’ll have us.”
Utkarsh Ambudkar: It’s one of those things where we are beloved by people, and I haven’t experienced anything like it. Everywhere we go, especially if we’re together, we’re stopped by people out in the streets whose entire family watches Ghosts together. We’ve struck the right chord with viewers, where they wanted something that they could sit down and watch with their whole family, which wasn’t sugarcoated or saccharin and still had some edge; it has a lot of comedy and is still taking chances.
We all lucked out with our writing staff, with our showrunners, and with our cast. We shoot in Montreal, which is tough because I’ve got babies who miss their papa. But if you’ll have us, we’ll keep doing it! We’ll do it for as long as you’ll have us.
What Ambudkar’s Comments Mean For Ghosts Season 5
There Are More Stories To Explore
Examining the ratings for the comedy, Ghosts season 5 is likely to be renewed. In data from December (via TVLine), Ghosts was the second most-watched comedy on broadcast television. The average for the total audience in season 4 so far, when including delayed viewership across seven days, comes in at 7.5 million viewers. It gets 0.66 in the key 18-49 demographic. Although it represents a decline from previous seasons, the show has largely held steady.
The comedy, an adaptation of a British sitcom, with Joe Port and Joe Wiseman as showrunners for the American version, still has a lot of stories to work through. None of the spirits in the main Ghosts cast have crossed over, which is a major story thread the series will have to address at some point. Fortunately, the CBS show has enough popularity that it should receive a renewal and be able to explore these crucial developments.
Our Take On The Renewal Of Ghosts
It May Just Be A Question Of Timing
CBS has not yet made any announcements about the renewal of its scripted shows, save for the confirmation that Matlock season 2 is happening. It may be the case that the network has already quietly renewed hits like Ghosts, and may be waiting to formally announce the news. In any case, as the broadcast season comes to a close, more should be learned in the coming weeks and months.
Ghosts season 4 airs Thursdays at 8:30 PM ET on CBS.
