In March, it was announced that The Flash star Tom Cavanagh had been cast as the husband of Special Agent in Charge Isobel Castille. It was a bit of a surprising casting move, heading into FBI’s eighth year, because it was only recently revealed that Isobel, played by Alana de la Garza, was even married.
Ahead of the premiere of FBI season 7, episode 17, “Lineage,” which debuts on Tuesday, April 8 at 8 PM ET on CBS, ScreenRant can share an exclusive clip that introduces Cavanagh as Isobel’s husband Phillip. In the scene, included below, the two discuss Isobel’s possible retirement. Though he mostly listens, Tom is open to the idea.

Isobel’s private life briefly became the focal point only a few weeks ago during season 7, episode 11. FBI Special Agent Omar Adom “OA” Zidan (Zeeko Zaki) spoke with Isobel about maintaining a separate work-life balance. It’s during this conversation that she shares for the first time that she has a husband. They’d gotten married quietly months ago, and Phillip has three daughters.
Cavanagh is best known for leading the NBC dramedy Ed and for the role of Harrison Wells, among others, on The CW’s The Flash.
Phillip makes his debut in “Lineage,” written by Woody Strassner, Mae Smith, and Sabir Pirzada and directed by Milena Govich, which sees a famous rapper and two teens gunned down on a tour bus. The team then discovers there may be more to the story than just his feud with another rapper. But while all this is happening, as our exclusive clip reveals, Isobel hits a major milestone that has her contemplating her future at the Bureau. The show wants to plant the seed that Isobel may retire, with Phillip quietly encouraging her.

With the cancellation of two FBI spinoffs, and a new spinoff coming soon, the long-running CBS show may want to tease that a familiar face will make their exit. It could be that Isobel will change her mind before “Lineage” wraps up. But at least, based on the clip, it’s something that understandably has its appeal after decades on the job.
