The final season of Station 19 wouldn’t be complete without another Grey’s Anatomy crossover, but will there be one this year? Keep reading to see if worlds will collide in 2024 with a Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy crossover.
Both series were created by Shonda Rhimes and are set in the same fictional, Seattle-based universe. Station 19 is a spin-off of the long-running medical drama and it first premiered on ABC in 2018. The series follows the personal and professional lives of firefighters at the Seattle Fire Department’s fictional Station 19, from the captain to the newest recruit. The main character is Andrea “Andy” Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz), the now-captain of Station 19 and the stubborn daughter of former captain Pruitt Herrera. Rounding out the cast is Jason George as Dr. Ben Warren, a former surgical resident at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and the husband of Grey’s Anatomy’s Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson); Grey Damon as Jack Gibson; Barrett Doss as Victoria “Vic” Hughes; Jay Hayden as Travis Montgomery; Danielle Savre as Maya Bishop; Boris Kodjoe as Robert Sullivan and Carlos Miranda as Theo Ruiz, among others.
In December 2023, news broke that the popular firefighter drama had been cancelled, with the upcoming Season 7 serving as its last season. “For seven seasons Station 19 has been a highlight of the ABC lineup thanks to Shonda and Betsy’s incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling,” Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, said in a statement at the time. “With Zoanne and Peter at the helm of the upcoming farewell season, we have so much to look forward to, most notably the celebration of the show’s milestone 100th episode.”
Rhimes also weighed in on the show’s cancelation, writing on Instagram:”Grateful for an unforgettable run. A heartfelt salute to the exceptional cast whose brilliance brought the characters to life and to the viewers who continued to make it possible!” she penned on Instagram alongside two photos of the Station 19 cast. Thank you for the magic, the moments, and the memories #station19.”
With both Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy having shortened seasons this year due to the dual Hollywood strikes, fans are worried that there won’t be another crossover before Station 19 says farewell. We have all the details below.
Will there be a Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy crossover?
Will there be a Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy crossover in 2024? The answer is yes! While speaking to TV Insider ahead of the Station 19 Season 7 premiere, Jaina Lee Ortiz revealed that there will be a crossover event toward the end of the show’s final season.
“There’s going to be a crazy crossover towards the end,” Ortiz teased. She added: “I have a feeling there’s going to be a major crossover towards the end of the season. And this character has never visited Grey’s Anatomy in this way.” The actress also agreed that it’s certainly possible for Station 19 characters to pop up on Grey’s Anatomy in the future, even after the show says goodbye.
Several Station 19 characters have already appeared on Grey’s Anatomy, including Andy Herrera, Ben Warren, Vic Hughes, Jack Gibson. Jack will probably make an appearance on Grey’s Anatomy in the Season 20 premiere, as his fate was left hanging in the balance after he collapsed in Station 19‘s Season 6 finale. He will likely need help from the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial, and specifically Dr. Amelia Shepherd’s (Caterina Scorsone), since he hit his head pretty hard when the dance floor collapsed at the Firefighters Ball.
Jack has already appeared on Grey’s Anatomy, however, so he might not be the character Ortiz is alluding to. Fans will just have to tune in to the seventh and final season to see which character has a major crossover.
