An update from CBS’ Ghosts sitcom confirms that Hetty’s (Rebecca Wisocky) long-awaited ghost power reveal will be monumental. The spirit has so far missed out on all the fun banter exchanged about the ghosts’ spirit powers. Some of the known powers are established in the pilot episode, with Thor (Devan Chandler Long) controlling the lights, Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) projecting a humming noise, and Trevor (Asher Grodman) moving objects. Other spirits, like Flower (Sheila Carrasco) and Elias (Matt Walsh), have an odd effect when they walk through living humans, causing them to feel intoxicated and aroused, respectively.
More impressive ghost powers emerged as the series developed its third and fourth seasons, with Pete (Richie Moriarty) and Patience’s (Mary Holland) abilities adding to the show’s lore in later storylines. The scout troop leader and Puritan’s spirit abilities are even more awe-inspiring than the rest. Pete also discovers he can leave the property at the end of Ghosts season 3. Patience then reveals her ghost power at the beginning of season 4, evoking blood from the walls, which is even more haunting. Still, Ghosts teased that Hetty’s power is one to top them all.
Hetty’s Ghost Power Continues To Be Unknown
Ghosts Has Kept Hetty’s Ghost Power A Mystery
Hetty’s ghost powers remain a question mark heading into the back half of season 4, and the robber baroness is the only one with an air of mystery surrounding her abilities. To worsen the situation for Hetty, who is aware of her shortcomings, Pete begins to comment about Hetty’s lack of ghost power in Ghosts season 4, implying that it’s a shame that other ghosts have lesser or no powers. Moreover, Hetty has taken a backseat in Ghosts season 4, so it’s no surprise that there hasn’t been a critical development for her lately.
While the development hasn’t provided any concrete revelation, Hetty has an impressive moment amid her husband Elias’ appearance in season 1, episode 13, “The Vault.” In this outing, Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) accidentally uncover Elias’ ghost trapped in an old vault. After her husband torments the lady of the house with his affairs from the past, Hetty tells Elias he can go to hell, and a portal to the underworld opens up and sucks Elias in. While Hetty banishing Elias to hell is impressive, Hetty can’t repeat the remarkable feat when she tries it on Trevor.
Hetty’s Powers Being Supposedly Impressive Will Make Up For Its Delayed Revelation
Hetty Deserves A Great Spirit Power
However, CBS is about to compensate for Hetty’s string of woes. A report from TV Line teased that Hetty’s ghost power is “one of the more impressive.” It quoted star Rose McIver saying that her character’s ancestor’s ghost power is “top tier.” The article suggests that the fourth season will clarify Hetty’s abilities, so viewers won’t have to wait much longer for the robber baroness’s ghost power reveal. McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar said the following about Hetty and the role of her supernatural abilities in the story:
McIver: “It is one of the more impressive ghost powers. If there were tiers, it’s top tier.”
Ambudkar: “You wouldn’t be able to guess what it is. It’s wild, and the reason why it manifests is even wilder. It’s insane what the writers are doing this season. It’s really funny.”
Hetty’s ghost power reveal is overdue between her limited role in season 4 and the other spirits mocking her lack of prowess. What the series does next with the former owner of Ghosts‘ Woodstone Mansion could help revive the character, giving Hetty a ghost power as cool as Trevor or Pete. Hetty’s power could be related to what we’ve seen of her before, or it could be something entirely niche and different. Regardless, Hetty’s ghost power is one of the more exciting developments to anticipate from season 4, especially with Jay’s seeing ghosts in the rearview mirror.
What Hetty’s Ghost Power Could Be?
Hetty’s Ability Could Be Anything
Hetty’s ghost power could be anything based on the show’s willingness to take risks in expanding its lore. The lady of the house could have an ability that relates to her banishing Elias to hell. It could be that Hetty can banish the ghosts to one afterlife or the other based on what they deserve and that Hetty’s trick to banish Trevor to hell didn’t work because he’s a good guy, as proven by Ghosts season 4, episode 4, “The Work Retreat.” For instance, maybe if Hetty tried manifesting that Trevor gets “sucked off,” it would work.
Another clue to Hetty’s power could be what happened to her predecessor in the British version of Ghosts, on which the U.S. characters are based. In Ghosts U.K., Lady Button can appear in photographs. Hetty could physically manifest in the house and be seen by others due to a paranormal connection to the mansion, which she hasn’t discovered yet. Alternatively, Hetty’s death in Ghosts could predetermine her powers. Hetty was killed using a telephone cord, so it could be that she could somehow communicate across the living and non-living planes uniquely.
