
At long last, Ghosts finally confirms Hetty’s ghost powers, and there’s a reason that it is only revealed now. Ever since it debuted, CBS’ take on the UK-original comedy has been a winner for the network. Not only has it been loved by critics, it also enjoys commercial success. Proof that it continues to be a high-value show for the broadcaster is Ghosts receiving a multi-season renewal even before its current year ends. Simultaneously, it has also been telling some of its best stories, including one that focuses on Woodstone Mansion’s lady of the house and Sam’s ancestor.
Because the Ghosts lore is entirely original, showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman have free reigns to craft the US show’s story however they see fit. Granted that they are staying true to some of the narrative elements established in its UK counterpart, but since there’s no official continuity, Ghosts can be as creative as it wants to be. One of the most anticipated aspects of the series is the individual powers of the Woodstone Mansion ghosts — something that it has been gradually unveiling through the years. Hetty Can Be Physically Seen, But There’s A Caveat
Still reeling from the death of Chris in Ghosts season 4, episode 15, “The Bachelorette Party,” “Hetty’s Day” starts with Sam and Jay, alongside some spirits getting to know the late Australian stripper. While it seemed like this was going to be the main plot of the outing, it quickly became clear that Hetty would be at the center of the storytelling.
Hetty’s ability to be seen in Ghosts season 4, episode 16 is confirmed when Jay also recognizes her.
Visiting to mend his broken heart, Jay’s cousin, Sunil, starts talking to Hetty as he walks in the kitchen. Unsure of what’s happening, she plays along and pretends to be another guest at the B&B. Hetty’s ability to be seen in Ghosts season 4, episode 16 is confirmed when Jay also recognizes her. Pete, Roberta, and Sass deduce that this is likely her ghost power, although, understandably, they have questions about how it works. They conclude that Hetty’s ability manifests during St. Patrick’s Day, in relation to her Irish ancestry.
It’s likely that it was unlocked when she learned about her lineage in Ghosts season 4, episode 10, “The Not-So-Silent Partner.” Because the power is very new, everyone is still just figuring it out. When doesn’t disappear when the clock strikes midnight, Hetty is jubilant, convinced that it’s a permanent ability. Unfortunately, before she can finish her celebration, she fades away, confirming that it’s just an annual occurrence.
When Hetty’s Powers Will Return In Ghosts
It Can Be A Tradition For The CBS Sitcom
The majority of the Woodstone Mansion ghosts have already discovered their powers. Even the basement spirits found out about their powers, which is to spread cholera temporarily. Pete can leave the border of the property, Trevor can minimally touch things, and Sass can enter dream are among the coolest from the roster thus far. However, Hetty’s ability to be physically seen only happens during St. Patrick’s Day, so she can no longer use it any time this season.
In any case, given how cool Hetty’s power is, expect that it will be utilized effectively as the show continues.
Fortunately, because it has a set schedule, fans are assured that it will be featured again in next year’s St. Patrick’s Day-themed episode. Apparently, they left her out in their discussions out of respect, because she still hadn’t discovered hers. Now that she knows all about it, however, Hetty can be considered when talking about the matter. Granted that some are automatically cooler than others, everyone’s power can be really useful under the right circumstances — even Isaac’s fart skill.
That said, Hetty’s ability to be physically seen is perhaps one of the most fun ones in Ghosts thus far. While it isn’t as adventurous as Pete’s or creative as Sass’, it’s definitely one to be jealous of. She is limited to being able to use it just once every year, but Sam and Jay can make it worth it for her by staging an event at the Woodstone B&B. The fact that it also coincides with St. Patrick’s Day makes this so much easier.
