A New Ghost Haunts Woodstone! Full Recap & Review of Ghosts S4E17

Pete brings a new ghost to the house in Ghosts season 4, episode 17.

It turns out that Pete is not the only ghost who is able to roam past their own ghost boundary. Ghosts season 4, episode 17 brings us a new ghost by the name of Joan.

Pete promised to find someone who would come to the house and be with Sasappis. Well, he made good on that promise, and Joan is certainly immediately interested in Sass. She finds his innocence cute, and she doesn’t judge too much when he struggles to get through an introduction when first meeting her.

In fact, she seems great for Sass. She’s confident and doesn’t mind putting Trevor in his place, making Sass smile throughout their interactions. So what stops them from getting together?

Sass is still hung-up on one ghost in Ghosts season 4, episode 17

It turns out that Sass is still struggling to get over one particular woman: his love Shiki. He feels like if he knows that she isn’t interested in him at all, he can move on from her. So, Pete goes out to find out if Shiki has any interest in Sass, regardless of the fact that neither of them can leave their respective boundaries.

At first, Shiki says she isn’t interested, but then she finds out that Sass was the one that left her the dead deer. That changes everything for her, but when Pete goes to the house to tell Sam, they all realize that there’s the problem of Sass and Shiki not being able to be together. Is it fair that Sass is forever pining for a girl that he can’t have?

Hetty thinks that the kinder option is to lie to Sass. Only, Jay doesn’t get the message that they will lie to him, so Sass quickly finds out the truth. Oops!

As much as Sass is angry, he also understands why they lied to him. However, now he wants to find a way to be with his girl, and Joan tells him to think outside the box.

How about inside the box? I love that what initially seemed like just a side story to tell Joan came up as a potential option. Sass will put himself inside the ghost box, and then Sam can take that to where Shiki is. While he can’t cross the boundary, maybe it’s possible when he’s inside the box. Oh, what Sass will do for love. Will this lead to the end of the most underused character on the series, though? I hope not. Sass is my favorite.

I enjoyed the addition of Joan to the story, especially her explaining that she’s built up a tolerance to the time she can spend away from her boundary. This opens the door for Pete’s power growth, but it also means that she can stick around for a while and shake things up in the house. While the Main 8 are great, things can get a little stale with only them in the storylines.

I would love to know who the old woman was in the living room, though. She was there for a comedic moment with Sass thinking that was the Joan Pete brought over, but Sam and Jay didn’t mention any guests that they had.

Thor attempts to get revenge on Alberta in Ghosts

The B story was about Thor and Alberta. After Jay notes that it looks like friends revenge bailed on the restaurant the night before, Thor gets an idea. He can revenge bail on Alberta. It turns out that 50 years ago, Alberta bailed on Thor’s 1000th birthday party. Well, he only needs to wait a few centuries to do the same to her.

He decides to encourage Alberta to put on a performance, and he promises to be there. Of course, he decides that he won’t show up, only he does quickly to find out if Alberta is hurt by him not being there. Alberta didn’t notice he wasn’t there and turns up when he is there, so it doesn’t quite work out, but it does allow the two to talk later.

Alberta shares that she was a young ghost at the time, and she was terrified at the idea of spending centuries trapped as a ghost. So, while she initially wanted to go to the party, she ended up not facing it. She does apologize for it.

Well, Alberta isn’t all that sorry, it seems. When she gets Thor to meet her for a friend date at the fountain, she ends up bailing — with Sam sending Jay out to tell Thor. Poor Thor!

This storyline does bring up Thor’s growth as a character, though. He even points out that therapy has helped. He was able to share his feelings with Alberta. Sadly, Alberta doing what she did could cause him to backtrack, and while it is fun, we’re seeing that Alberta hasn’t changed in personality at all. She isn’t moving on any time soon, but Thor does stand a chance soon as he is learning.

Ghosts airs on Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c on CBS.
