Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist announce shock divorce
The Golden Bachelor’s inaugural couple have announced their divorce after weeks of speculation.
The Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist seemingly haven’t cracked their second chance at true love.
After tying the knot in a livestreamed ceremony on ABC to conclude the first season on January 4th, they have now announced their plans to divorce.
The pair are ending their relationship seemingly just like they started it as they announced the news on Friday during an interview on Good Morning America.
Gerry revealed that after reflecting on a number of dilemmas they’ve been facing since leaving the ABC show, most notably where to live, they have “come to the conclusion mutually” that their best way forward is to “dissolve our marriage.”
He explained: “We just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to…to live apart.”
Theresa assured that they had tried to make the marriage work, desperately trying to find a home that suited them both while she worked in New Jersey and the family man didn’t want to stray too far from Indiana.
The 72-year-old confirmed this means they are getting divorced but assured fans it’s not because their feelings towards each other have changed in the slightest.
Gerry insisted he is still “in love” with Theresa and will be supporting her, from afar, as their relationship ends.
The 70-year-old returned the sentiment adding: “Yeah, I still love him.”
Fearing the impact their split may have on fans, Gerry pleaded that viewers don’t give up the “hope” they got from watching him find love again after losing his wife.
Theresa and Gerry have been surrounded by online speculation for the last few weeks as fans claimed to spot signs of turbulence in their romance.
It started after it was revealed that three months into their marriage, the golden pair were still living states apart.
Although the announcement will undoubtedly take fans by surprise, even with the weeks of speculation leading up to it, the compliance officer explained: “We didn’t want to pretend to anybody.”
While they do have to return their rings provided by the dating show, neither Gerry nor Theresa plan on ending their search for love in their golden years.
