‘Star Wars: Episode X’ Reportedly Won’t Lead to Trilogy
Disney is working on a bunch of new Star Wars projects right now. These include a new film by Mangold set thousands of years in the past and a secret project by Waititi that he said would upset the fans. In between these, there’s talk about a new movie focusing on Rey called ‘Star Wars: Episode X’ with a working title ‘New Jedi Order,’ which seems to match what the movie will be about.
At the Star Wars Celebration 2023 event, they announced a new movie that picks up Rey’s story after ‘The Rise of Skywalker.’ Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, it follows Rey as she tries to bring back the Jedi Order. Initially, Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were on board to write it, but then Steven Knight took over. The movie is set 15 years after ‘Rise of Skywalker’ and looks at the galaxy after the war and the fall of the First Order, with the Jedi scattered. Kathleen Kennedy mentioned that Rey is trying to keep her promise to Luke by rebuilding the Jedi Order, taking inspiration from the books.
Recently, Ridley, who’s coming back to play Rey Skywalker, told the media that the story is shaping up to be really cool and she thinks fans will be excited about it. She also said she only knows the plot for one movie, and according to Daniel Richtman, a well-known leaker, there might be a good reason for that.
It looks like the new ‘Star Wars: Episode X’ isn’t going to start a trilogy like we’re used to. Instead, it’ll be a single movie, but it’ll leave some room open just in case they want to make a sequel, especially if Episode X does really well and people like it.
Just a reminder, ‘The Last Jedi’ and ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ didn’t go down well with fans, particularly certain parts of Ridley’s character Rey. Fans felt she developed too fast without a clear explanation, and her lineage reveal was a letdown. Hopefully, the next movie does things differently to treat both Rey and Ridley better.
