Twilight Saga Relationships As Taylor Swift Songs

Twilight Saga Relationships As Taylor Swift Songs

From soulmates to unrequited crushes, Taylor Swift has love songs for each of these Twilight Saga relationships.

Taylor Swift has proven herself to be one of the most relatable modern-day artists. From being the other woman to perfect romances to desperately pining over someone, her songs capture a variety of experiences in love and heartbreak. As such, her songs perfectly encapsulate many relationships from the beloved supernatural teen series: The Twilight Saga.

Stephenie Meyer’s The Twilight Saga became a global phenomenon with its vampire-human-werewolf love triangle and exemplification of young adult tropes. It also displays a plethora of relationships – some healthy, others very toxic, some completely nonsensical, but all able to be summed up by Taylor Swift’s range of lyrics.

Rosalie & Emmett – “Call It What You Want”
“Bridges burn, I never learned / At least I did one thing right.”

Even as a human, Rosalie Hale was always “in love with the idea of love.” She chased after hopes for an ideal marriage and longed for a happy, loving family life like that of her best friend, Vera. Unfortunately, her dreams remained unfulfilled as a human, and also as a vampire – until she saved Emmett.

Alice & Jasper – “Invisible String”
“Time, mystical time / Cutting me open, then healing me fine.”

With this song, Swift muses how she and her partner were always fated to meet, tied together by an invisible string. Given Alice’s ability to see the future, this song fits her relationship with Jasper beautifully. Even more so considering the fact that she saw him coming, but had to wait.

Carlise & Esme – “Lover”
“Can I go where you go? / Can we always be this close, forever and ever?”

As two of Twilight’s most likable characters, Carlisle and Esme have one of the purest, healthiest relationships within the series. Their love story is also one of the most tragically romantic of the Cullen coven, who view them as a pillar of support and guidance on how to navigate life and their relationships. The two are described as being deeply in love, even all these years since their initial spark.

Mike & Bella – “Teardrops On My Guitar”
“He says he’s so in love, he’s finally got it right / I wonder if he knows he’s all I thought about at night.”

Taylor croons about being absolutely enamored with a friend who is clearly in love with someone else, fitting Mike’s feelings for Bella to a tee. Just as the protagonist of Taylor’s song keeps yearning for Drew’s affection, despite him being oblivious to how much he means to her, Mike too is constantly holding out for Bella.

Jessica & Mike – “Hey Stephen (Taylor’s Version)”
“All those other girls, well, they’re beautiful / But would they write a song for you?”

This line may well have been Jessica Stanley’s journal entry for Mike Newton. While Mike was busy always pining for Bella, Jessica had a major crush on Mike and was constantly vying for his attention.

Sam & Leah – “Don’t You (Taylor’s Version)”
“I’m sure she’ll make you happy / But don’t you smile at me and ask me how I’ve been.”

Sam and Leah’s relationship was one of the saddest in the series. There was no real falling out or reason for their breakup, other than Sam imprinting on Emily. Despite the imprinting being out of his control, it didn’t negate the fact that his intense feelings for Emily left Leah alone and heartbroken in the dust.

Charlie & Sue – Begin Again (Taylor’s Version)
“I’ve been spending the last eight months / Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end / But on a Wednesday in a cafe, I watched it begin again.”

In this hopeful track, Taylor sings about finding someone new who appreciates the parts of her that her previous partner never did, fitting Charlie’s relationship with Sue. While Bella’s parents kept a civil relationship, it’s mentioned that Renee left because she did not fully appreciate Charlie and the small-town life he chose to lead.

Edward & Jacob – Look What You Made Me Do
“I don’t like your little games / Don’t like your tilted stage / The role you made me play / Of the fool, no, I don’t like you.”

Although they eventually become in-laws, Edward and Jacob start off as bitter rivals fighting for Bella’s love. While Edward acknowledges Jacob’s importance in Bella’s life and his hand in helping her cope with his absence in New Moon, Jacob remains hostile and bitter toward Bella’s choice, right up until he imprints on her daughter.

Jacob & Bella – You Belong With Me (Taylor’s Version)
“Can’t you see that I’m the one who understands you? / Been here all along so why can’t you see? / You belong with me.”

While his love for Bella was initially very sweet and innocent, after his transformation and Bella’s decision to turn Jacob became impatient and determined to make Bella confess her feelings for him. Bella and Jacob’s relationship often makes fans cringe.
