Hello! Here we are again this week to share with you a new chapter of Maya and Carina ‘s adventures on Station 19! Let’s go!
The episode begins with the song ” Feeling Good ” by Victory playing in the background as we see the personal situations of each firefighter. The first person we see is Dean at home, poker-faced, watching JJ drive off, leaving him alone with the little girl. We then see Sullivan, pacing thoughtfully at the fire station. The shot switches to Warren at Grey Sloan Hospital, impatiently waiting for news of Vasquez’s condition. Still at the hospital, the camera focuses on Warren’s wife, Eva. Suddenly, we return to the station, where the other firefighters are running around, preparing to get ready because they’ve received a call and have to make a run for it. Sullivan is in his office, watching the truck leave. Once he’s alone, he grabs a bottle of the medication he’s been drugging himself with and throws it in the trash.
With the song still playing in the background, we see the firefighters who have returned from the call and are in the locker room changing. Then we see Dean back at home with the little girl, who won’t stop crying. When he tries to call JJ, he gets an answering machine. Sullivan is now at the hospital trying to make the wait a little more bearable.
Dr. Bailey comes out to tell Eva and Warren that Vasquez is out of surgery, stable, and in the ICU.
The firefighters are having breakfast in the park kitchen, and we finally see Maya, who puts a sign on one of the refrigerators to write down the meal schedule each one is going to bring to give to Eva—I honestly don’t quite understand this; it must be something typical in the United States. Then she starts giving orders and gets serious with a firefighter named Finch, who isn’t being very respectful to her. The captain tells him that if he can’t be professional because he’s worried about Vásquez, he should tell her and calls another firefighter. He tells her that work comes first.
While they’re having breakfast, they receive a notice that there’s apparently been a traffic accident and they have to get ready to rush there.
Dean is still struggling with raising his baby, and Pruitt comes to the rescue. At that moment, we see a flashback, going back to March 2009, and we discover how Dean became a firefighter. It turns out he saved a colleague from what was then his job. Pruitt, who was one of the firefighters who had come to the rescue, saw how he was trying to save his life and told him he had a great future as a firefighter.
The trucks are already on their way to the traffic accident while Maya talks on the radio explaining what the situation is, once they arrive at the scene of the accident the captain starts calling for ambulances because there are many victims, Andy tells her that there are six motorcycles but he only sees five motorcyclists and they realize that there are more victims than they initially thought.
Sullivan is with Dr. Shepherd to see if he can treat the pain in his leg. I’m making this note solely and exclusively to mention Amelia. I really don’t care about him.
We return to the accident where Maya continues giving orders to get the situation resolved, Travis starts to assist a car driver and they realize that he was drunk at the wheel, Maya wants Emmett to intubate the driver, Travis and Finch tell her that it’s too much for a rookie but Maya doesn’t give in.
Vic is in the park taking calls because, ever since the rocket accident in the previous episode, people have been calling nonstop asking about space rockets, possible alien invasions, and all kinds of conspiracies related to the subject. This character is wonderful; I hope to tell you more about her in future episodes.
Back at the accident site, Andy and Jack go out to rescue a motorcyclist who is trapped under his motorcycle and asks for his wife who was riding as a passenger, then Jack discovers that she is up a tree, next to the tree is another motorcyclist, Andy radios Maya that they have found 3 more victims.
Warren attends to one of the bikers and tells him that he thinks he has something in his ribs, he seems to know a lot about medicine and the firefighter asks him if he is a doctor or something, the man answers that he is a plastic surgeon, thanks to this biker Andy and Warren discover that there are 9 people in total who were riding motorcycles and that apparently they belong to a club and they make meetings to go out on motorcycles.
Suddenly Maya discovers the ninth biker under some bushes, he is conscious but seriously ill and suddenly loses consciousness.
Emmett is trying to intubate the driver of the car but is very nervous and is unable to do so. He asks Travis for help, but Travis tells him it’s his job and tries to cheer him up. In the end, Emmett manages to intubate him but learns from Maya that the patient had no chance of survival. The firefighter, of course, is not amused and Travis tells him to think that he has learned to intubate under pressure. Emmett leaves because he is annoyed and, besides, since he started working at the park, he hasn’t wanted to speak to Travis.
After doing everything possible to rescue the ten victims, the firefighters are devastated because they were only able to save one person.
When they arrive at the park, Maya wants to tell them something, but Travis tells her they don’t want any more speeches, and Maya stands there without saying anything.
Then Travis, Emmett, Andy and Jack go out for a drink and at one point Travis and Emmett are left alone, Emmett tells Travis not to think anything weird, that he has a girlfriend and Travis gets up and leaves, well yes we are fine…
Vic goes to Dean’s house with some food and finds out that JJ has left, so he proposes that she stay and live with him and the little girl to solve their problems: Vic has a place to live and Dean has help with the upbringing, Dean accepts.
Bailey arrives at Park 19 to talk to Warren and tells him that thanks to one of the bikers being an organ donor, they’re going to be able to save the lives of 7 people; at least something good has come out of all this.
After this intense chapter, we finally see Maya and Carina! They are in bed and Maya is pensive and a little sad, then this happens:
Carina: I’m so glad you called, but… I should be back to work now.
Maya: I’m the truck.
Carina: Sorry. I don’t really understand the sayings in this country.
Maya: (crying) I am the truck. I am… I am… the truck that crashed out of control into the fire station and destroyed an entire family. I am the truck.
Carina tries to comfort her by hugging her and kissing her on the cheek. What a beautiful scene! Once again, we see Maya allowing herself to be vulnerable with the doctor.
And so ends the chapter! There hasn’t been much of Maya and Carina, but the next one is totally worth it.
