Solo: A Star Wars Story Writer Explains Why Boba Fett Wasn’t In The Movie
Solo: A Star Wars Story was released in May 2018. The movie followed Han Solo’s origin story and his adventure 10 years before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, a legendary movie where the popular character was played by even more popular actor Harrison Ford. Solo explained a lot of things about Han, one of them is how he got his name, and also how he met Chewie, and how he came into possession of the Millennium Falcon.
Alden Ehrenreich played young Han Solo in the spin-off, and Donald Glover played young Lando Calrissian, a famous Star Wars character who was played by Billy Dee Williams in the main Star Wars franchise. Han and Lando were the two most famous Star Wars characters that were a part of this movie. One other character, however, was expected to didn’t appear in the film, but he’t — Boba Fett. Co-writer Jonathan Kasdan recently explained how Boba Fett wasn’t allowed to be a part of the movie.

In the long history of Star Wars, Han Solo and Boba Fett go a way back. We remember how Boba Fett, as a bounty hunter, gave frozen Han Solo to Jabba The Hut between the events of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Boba Fett will return in just a few days in The Book of Boba Fett, his own series on Disney+, in which he’ll be played by Temuera Morrison, and Ming-Na Wen returns as Fennec Shand. Both characters had a small part in the second season of The Mandalorian before the Book of Boba Fett was announced in the post-credit scene of the season.
Solo: A Star Wars Story was one of the biggest disappointments of the Star Wars saga. The movie grossed only $393 million against the reported budget of $300 million, making it the first Star Wars movie that bombed at the box office. The movie received favorable reviews, although most fans still consider it one of the weakest installments of the franchise.
Solo was directed by Ron Howards, from the screenplay written by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jonathan Kasdan. Jonathan also co-wrote the upcoming Indiana Jones movie in which Harrison Ford will reprise his role as the famous adventurer.
The Book of Boba Fett will premiere on December 29 exclusively on Disney+.
