The Golden Bachelorette runner-up Guy Gansert should be the star of The Golden Bachelor season 2 because he’s willing to take chances, as evidenced by his recent guest appearance on the soap opera General Hospital. I initially thought that Guy was wrong for the role because he’d fallen in love with leading lady Joan Vassos and was ready to propose, so I didn’t think that he’d be ready to jump into another relationship so soon after. However, I’ve now changed my mind.
The Golden Bachelorette wrapped filming in August 2024, so Guy has had several months to get over his relationship with Joan. He was heartbroken when she broke up with him to get engaged to Chock Chapple, but the experience proved that he was ready to find love again after his divorce. Although at first I didn’t want him in the role of the Golden Bachelor season 2 lead, I now think that Guy is perfect for the role because his part on General Hospital proved that he’s willing to take risks in his life.
Guy Appeared On General Hospital
Guy Came Out Of His Comfort Zone
On March 12, 2025, Guy made his acting debut on General Hospital as wildlife journalist Jeffrey Beckett, who, like Guy, used to be an ER doctor. He shared scenes with powerhouse actresses Cynthia Watros as Nina Reeves and Maura West as Ava Jerome. In an interview with People, Guy revealed that he’d been cast on General Hospital after he’d jokingly told one of the Bachelor franchise producers at the Golden Bachelorette finale, which filmed in November 2024, that he’d love to appear on the show, which he used to watch when he was in college. Guy had no prior acting experience.
Guy also shared that he had so much fun on General Hospital, and he thinks that he could take his acting to another level. Therefore, he hopes that the show will invite him back in the future. Guy’s willingness to try something completely new is an appealing quality for a potential Golden Bachelor. At 66 years old, he’s still taking chances, which I believe is necessary for the lead of the reality dating series for seniors. I think that it’s refreshing that Guy is opening himself up to new experiences in his 60s.
Guy Took Accountability For His Mistakes
Guy’s Honesty & Maturity Will Make Him a Great Golden Bachelor
While The Golden Bachelorette was airing, it came to light that, in 2021, Guy’s ex-wife, to whom he was married for 34 years and with whom he has four children, filed an application for a protection order against domestic violence in Nevada family court. She accused him of trying to physically threaten her after they’d broken up (via The Sun), and wanted a request for protection from him for 45 days.
Guy’s ex-wife alleged that he’d placed something under her rear driver’s tire, but then removed it. She also said that he disparaged her and her new boyfriend, and motioned like he was going to shoot her, with his hand shaped like a pistol. However, three weeks later, she voluntarily withdrew the application, so the order wasn’t granted. The dismissal notes indicated that Guy and his ex-wife reached a no-contact agreement.
In an Instagram post, Guy addressed the situation, writing that it occurred during an extremely stressful time for him and his ex-wife, but it was resolved. They’d asked the court to seal the application because they wanted to maintain privacy for their family, but Guy wrote that he knew that responsibility came with being in the public eye. Guy said that his divorce was extremely difficult for him and led him to a very low point in his life. As a result, he behaved in a way that didn’t represent who he is. Guy said that, for the past few years, he’s conducted a deep personal evaluation, and he’ll always continue to work to improve himself.
Although Guy made a big mistake, he took accountability for it. I think that this kind of honesty and maturity would make him a good lead on The Golden Bachelor. Because Guy has done some soul-searching about his mistakes in his past, I believe that he’s in touch with his emotions and knows who he is, and who he doesn’t want to be. I know that this is essential for the lead of a reality dating series.
Guy Has Other Impressive Qualities
Guy Was A Successful ER Doctor
Guy has now retired from his career as an ER doctor in Reno, Nevada at age 66 after 35 years on the job. I believe that his past success as a doctor makes him a very appealing choice for the next Golden Bachelor. I think it proves that he’s driven, and can accomplish anything that he puts his mind to. Being an ER doctor is a very stressful job, and Guy would’ve had to think on his feet and make quick decisions. I feel that he can carry those skills over to The Golden Bachelor. Also, now that he’s retired, Guy will have the time to focus on his love life.
Guy is a handsome, intelligent, successful, and charming man who deserves the chance to find love again as the star of The Golden Bachelor season 2. I believe that his desire to jump into acting on General Hospital, which was something that he’d never done before in his life, proves that he’s willing to take chances, which will translate well to him looking for love as the lead of the reality dating series for seniors. Although I didn’t think that Guy was the best choice at first, I’ve changed my mind, and I now hope that he’s the lead of The Golden Bachelor season 2.
