Deputy Commissioner Wallace Boden is back in Firehouse 51 for a special episode of the NBC drama.
Eamonn Walker will be making a one-night only return to Chicago Fire reprising his role as Deputy Commissioner Wallace Boden in the Wednesday, April 16 episode.
Walker chose to exit the NBC procedural. As a result, he was written out in the Season 12 finale when Boden was promoted to Chief to Deputy Commissioner of the CFD, requiring him to move to headquarters and no longer be stationed out of Firehouse 51.
“We’re so excited to have our beloved Chief Boden back, and the episode, titled ‘Post-Mortem,’ is a thrill ride unlike any we’ve done before,” showrunner Andrea Newman said in a statement. “Told with flashbacks and unique POVs, Chief Boden leads our team on a search to discover the how, who, and why of a fierce firefight that ended in disaster.”
The logline for the episode says: “Boden has been tasked by Commissioner Grissom to run a post-incident analysis following a house fire that collapsed with a firefighter inside.”
Chicago Fire fans are cheerily responding to the news. One wrote, “This makes me so happy!! Just seeing this pic made my day!”
While another added, “I’m crying of happiness!!! I miss him so much!! Impatiently waiting for this episode…”
And there were “Finally” and “Awesome” comments as well.
Walker was an original cast member on the NBC drama from Wolf Entertainment before his exit in the Season 12 finale, but it was made clear that he would always be welcome to return. That said, his legacy is still felt in Season 13 despite Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) having taken over the position.
Chicago Fire fans are also anxiously awaiting the return of Sam Carver (Jake Lockett), who exited the series last week when Carver decided he needed to take a leave of absence to get a handle on his alcohol addiction issue.
“Carver will be back from his stint at rehab very soon,” showrunner Andrea Newman exclusively told Parade. “We really wanted to do justice to the addiction journey, and how nothing comes easy. So it’s a bumpy road for him and for the people who love him most.”
Chicago Fire airs Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Streams next day on Peacock.
