Chuck Lorre’s Big Bang Theory spinoff brings back a true geek icon — his nerdy brilliance runs so deep, even Marvel hired him as a writer.
Turns out, The Big Bang Theory universe isn’t done geeking out just yet. While fans might’ve hoped for Kevin Sussman’s return as Stuart, creator Chuck Lorre has his eyes on a different fan-favorite for the upcoming spinoff. This star’s geek credentials run so deep, even Marvel tapped him as a writer.
As Lorre breathes new life into the sitcom universe, bringing back this iconic brainiac feels like the perfect play.
From Deadpool to Big Bang Theory: Brian Posehn’s epic geek comeback
Bert actor Brian Posehn (yes, the same geekhead Marvel once tapped as a Deadpool writer) is stepping back into the sitcom universe.
Posehn’s geek cred runs deep. Beyond his lovable role on The Big Bang Theory, Posehn co-wrote Deadpool during Marvel’s NOW! era (2012-2015), bringing humor and chaos to the Merc with a Mouth across 45 issues. But that’s just the tip of his nerdy iceberg. He said during an interview,
For Marvel, I’m going to go back to Deadpool. I want to do some more Deadpool stuff because I had such a blast with that character. When it ended, it ended kind of organically for me, but I miss writing there. I did a one-pager for the Marvel 80th Anniversary.
I wrote it with Scott Koblish, who did some of the Deadpool art for some of my favorite issues. My favorite stuff with Deadpool are the ones that have less story and straight-up comedy. I love the storytelling too. The ones where we went joke, joke, joke, joke, joke – those were so fun! I want to do more of that.
A massive metalhead, Posehn dropped Grandpa Metal, a comedy-metal album packed with guest spots from legends like Scott Ian of Anthrax, members of Guns N’ Roses, Slipknot, and even Weird Al Yankovic. The album’s playful digs at aging metalheads – complete with a Slayer-style solo by Gary Holt – prove that Posehn isn’t afraid to blend humor with hardcore riffs.
And if that wasn’t enough geek cred, he even snagged a role in The Mandalorian, playing a speeder pilot who famously warns, “Stay off the ice.”
Now, Posehn’s return for The Big Bang Theory spinoff brings that perfect mix of comedy and geekiness back to the screen. While Chuck Lorre keeps the plot under wraps, bringing Posehn back signals a return to the show’s roots: celebrating nerd culture with heart and humor.
Marvel fans, metalheads, and sitcom lovers – get ready for a reunion that’s bound to rock.
How Kevin Sussman missed out on playing Howard Wolowitz
Before Simon Helberg nailed Howard Wolowitz’s bowl cut and NASA dreams, Kevin Sussman was actually set for the role. The Big Bang Theory co-creators Chuck Lorre and William Burrows wrote the part for him (per Times Now).

In the end, Helberg donned the skinny jeans, and Sussman became Stuart, the lovable comic book guy. Not Howard, but still legendary.
