Bridgerton’s Young Queen Charlotte Revealed In Netflix Prequel Image
Bridgerton takes viewers back in time with the first look at young Queen Charlotte in Netflix’s prequel series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
Netflix reveals the first look at young Queen Charlotte for its upcoming prequel series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Premiering on Netflix in December 2020, Bridgerton is a period drama that follows the romantic exploits of the esteemed title family. The highly-anticipated new series will center around Queen Charlotte, the demanding and boisterous royal attempting to uncover gossip columnist Lady Whistledown’s identity. The prequel is led by Bridgerton executive producer Shonda Rhimes, who is serving as showrunner.
Starring India Amarteifio as a young Queen Charlotte, the prequel will chronicle the monarch’s rise to power following her marriage to King George (Corey Mylchreest), seeing their love story ignite great societal change, “creating the world of the Religion inherited by the characters in Bridgerton,” as per the show’s logline. The series will also feature Bridgerton cast members Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), Ruth Gemmell (Lady Bridgerton), and Golda Rosheuvel, who plays the present-day Queen Charlotte in the series. While Netflix has kept many details about the prequel under wraps, viewers now have their first glimpse at Amarteifio assuming the throne as Queen Charlotte.
The image, shared by Netflix ahead of its Tudum event, features an effortlessly regal-looking Charlotte adorned in luxurious robes and crown jewels, appearing slightly anxious as she stares into the camera. Netflix also confirmed the title of the series to be Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Check out the portrait of the royal below:
Why Young Queen Charlotte’s Story Is So Important To Bridgerton
Although Queen Charlotte is not the star of Bridgerton, she plays a pivotal role in the show’s many romantic travails, having heavy influence over high-ranking families including the Bridgertons and Featheringtons. Unwavering in her determination to not only have the last word on their affairs but also in her obsession with discovering Lady Whistledown’s identity, Queen Charlotte often steals the scene when she is on-screen. Despite her bold and relentless personality, she hides a dark secret: her husband’s declining mental health, which she tries to remain hidden. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story could explore what led King George to his current state, which teeters on lucid. The prequel will also allow audiences to learn more about their early life and marriage together, which will be interesting to see as Charlotte has an infatuation with controlling the marriages of her subjects.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story promises to follow the creation of the Religion. This could be exciting for viewers as they learn just how this societal ranking system came to fruition. The new image also provides insight into Queen Charlotte’s mental state, which seems to indicate trouble in the palace based on her anxiety-ridden expression. Whether this has to do with King George remains to be seen. While a premiere date has yet to be set, hopefully, more is revealed about Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story in the coming months.
