Bridgerton’s Queen Charlotte Prequel Better Explains An Eloise Story
Netflix’s Bridgerton prequel reveals a lot about Queen Charlotte. The first teaser already explains Queen Charlotte’s bond with Eloise in Bridgerton.
Queen Charlotte’s Bridgerton prequel, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, better explains an Eloise story and Queen Charlotte’s treatment of her. The Bridgerton prequel released its first look at the young Queen-to-be and her first encounter with her future husband, the King. The Bridgerton spinoff is written by Shonda Rhimes for Netflix and will focus on the rise of Queen Charlotte as well as her love life. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, a miniseries of 8 episodes, is set to release in 2023.
Sex Education’s India Amarteifio plays young Queen Charlotte and stars opposite Corey Mylchreest, who portrays the young King George III. In the first look released by Shonda Rhimes (via Twitter), Charlotte is trying to escape from meeting the King, whom she is set to marry, as she does not want to be forced to marry someone she does not know. When being questioned by a boy about what she is doing and Charlotte demands his help on her escape, he reveals he is Bridgerton’s hidden King George, her husband-to-be. The teaser for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story sets up the plot to show how Queen Charlotte and King George fell in love and ruled together, despite Charlotte’s attempts to escape societal expectations.
The Bridgerton prequel teaser already explains why Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) has a soft spot for Eloise (Claudia Jessie): they are very similar people. Eloise’s interactions with the Queen always show Charlotte to be particularly lenient with Eloise, as well as very trusting of her, such as when she wanted Eloise to find Lady Whistledown for her. The Bridgerton prequel teaser shows Queen Charlotte being rebelious against society, as well as back chatting to anyone who tries to stop her. Eloise shows extremely similar traits to Queen Charlotte, which is why Eloise’s perfect bond with Benedict is so tragic because, as hard as she tries to escape society’s expectations, she cannot do it as freely as him. Queen Charlotte sees her own personality and desires for freedom in Eloise, and because of it, she has a soft spot for her, giving Eloise more leniency than the other girls of Bridgerton’s debutant.
Queen Charlotte’s Prequel Will Make Her Bridgerton Story Better (& More Tragic)
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will make Queen Charlotte’s story much better and a lot more tragic by developing her youth. The first two seasons of Bridgerton have shown snippets of Queen Charlotte’s and King George’s relationship, and audiences have seen her become a lot more tender when with him. However, these have been extremely brief, and information about their relationship is unknown. Bridgerton’s prequel shows their relationship blossom and will make King George’s illness and its effect on them both even more tragic. Also, as the audience becomes familiar with King George, it will be even more tragic knowing his fate in Bridgerton.
Bridgerton’s prequel will raise the question of (since Queen Charlotte is so similar to Eloise) how she ended up not only adhering to the marriage she did not want but also enforcing the societal rules and expectations in Bridgerton. The prequel will provide the background on Queen Charlotte that explains the person she is in Bridgerton. Queen Charlotte is already a very likable character, so it will give audiences a chance to get to know her better, as well as other characters and their relationships, such as Queen Charlotte’s close bond with Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton. Like Eloise, Queen Charlotte is a very complex and interesting character, so Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will massively make her story more exciting and all the more tragic.
