9-1-1 star Angela Bassett has teased a possible crossover with 9-1-1: Nashville, as she explains how the two worlds could collide.
The upcoming spin-off series will star lead actor Chris O’Donnell as Captain Don Sharpe, a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider. Don is a devoted family man who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son – but he has a few secrets.
9-1-1: Nashville will premiere later this year but Bassett, who serves as executive producer on both shows, is already thinking about a collaboration with the original show.
“It makes some sense,” the Sergeant Athena Grant actor told TV Insider. “We have to see how we do this interstate, how are we gonna play this, what business I have over there?”
“But we’ll see if the FBI comes into play, if somebody runs from California to Nashville or vice versa, but yeah, you definitely could have some crossover action going on.”
The star is no stranger to crossovers, having recently appeared as Athena in an episode of Doctor Odyssey. The episode, titled ‘Casino Week’, saw the character as a guest aboard The Odyssey.
When she suspects two passengers are targeting the ship’s vault, Athena enlists Doctor Max’s help to take control of the situation.
Elsewhere in the interview, 9-1-1: Lone Star showrunner Rashad Raisani shared two crossover plans between the original show and the Austin-based spin-off that ultimately didn’t work out.
“One was to have an LA-based emergency where the 126 [fire crew] would’ve shown up in support of the LA cast because we’d already done one where they’d come to help us,” he said.
He continued: “And the second thing, which I always wanted to do, there’s this thing called the International Firefighting Games where firefighters from all over the world send their best to do almost like an Olympics or a Squid Game, whatever you want to call it, of firefighting competitions.
“And I always thought it would’ve been really fun to send some of the 126 and have them meet up with some of the 118 from L.A. and then have a real emergency happen while they were doing that fun thing and see them all work together.”
