9-1-1 Season 8: What Will Happen to Tommy and Buck’s Relationship? Explore the Possibilities

9-1-1, Ryan Murphy’s procedural drama series, follows the lives of Los Angeles’ top first responders. While the show focuses primarily on how they help people in the face of disasters and accidents, it also has something for every character.

Oliver Stark plays Evan “Buck” Buckley, a firefighter. While Buck has had several romantic relationships on the show, one of his most personal moments was when he came out as bisexual in season 7.

Buck not only realized his sexual orientation, but also developed feelings for Tommy, an LAFD Air Operations pilot played by Lou Ferrigno Jr. Tommy returned in season 7 of the show, and Buck met him on a cruise ship when he helped him find Bobby and Athena.

Although the two were confirmed to be romantically involved at the end of season 7, there was little development in season 8. It was confirmed that season 8 will focus on Buck and Tommy’s relationship.

Buck was initially jealous of Tommy developing a friendship with Eddie, but the two eventually kissed, went on their first date, and started dating officially.

Here’s everything about the fate of their relationship in 9-1-1 Season 8.

With recent episodes giving Tommy enough time to develop his relationship with Buck, it seems like 9-1-1 is finally giving their relationship the attention it deserves. Oliver Stark spoke about their relationship in a recent interview with Screen Rant,

“Yeah, [Tommy] in episode 5… and supporting Buck through some tough times, but I don’t know if he’s always helpful in that situation. [Laughs] He’s a little weird because of some of the things that happen to Buck. And then in episode 6, there’s a lot of clarity about where they’re at and a lot of truths are learned about each other, I think it’s going to be a really great episode.”

While fans have yet to see Episode 6, ‘Confessions,’ which could hint at Buck confessing his fears about Tommy, Episode 5 saw the two of them go on a date and have some fun on Halloween.

Having just come out as bisexual, Buck is still trying to navigate his feelings and fears about dating a man for the first time. While he has feelings for Tommy and his relationship with Tommy highlights his emotional growth on the show, they still have a long way to go.

While Tommy’s future on 9-1-1 is still uncertain, considering whether or not the actor will be in future episodes, they could be in for a long haul, as Stark’s comments about Tommy’s on-screen presence in season 8 have suggested.

While season 8 has largely focused on bringing Bobby back as Captain of Station 118 and kicking Gerard out, now seems like the perfect time for the show to explore the relationship between Buck and Tommy and expand Buck’s character arc.

After several failed and superficial relationships on the show, Buck may be ready to enjoy a real relationship with someone he can find companionship with. Plus, Tommy seems like the kind of guy Buck needs right now, after all he’s endured in his past relationships.
