“9-1-1: Oliver Stark Reveals Buck and Eddie’s Evolving Relationship in Season 8″
Oliver Stark opened up about Buck and Eddie’s relationship in the eighth season of 9-1-1.
Earlier this year, the seventh season of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear’s hit drama surprised fans when Evan “Buck” Buckley (Stark) came out as bisexual.
In the momentous 100th episode of 9-1-1 – titled ‘Buck, Bothered and Bewildered’ – the fan-favorite character shared a warm kiss with former LAFD firefighter/Air Force pilot Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.).
Following the epic episode, Buck continues to explore his sexuality, coming out to his family and best friend Edmundo ‘Eddie’ Diaz (Ryan Guzman), while also developing a closer romantic relationship with Tommy.
On September 26, 9-1-1 returned for its highly anticipated and action-packed eighth season, which included a killer bee incident and a flying chainsaw.
The premiere also featured more adorable scenes of Buck and Tommy, as the lovebirds and Eddie celebrated the birthday of their son Christopher Diaz (Gavin McHugh) on Facetime.
With 9-1-1 season eight officially underway, Stark recently spoke to TV Insider about the new batch of episodes, including the “unforeseen challenges” Buck and Tommy face.
“Obviously it’s early days [of the season] and there’s a lot they don’t know about each other, and I think as they start to discover more things — that’s the baggage that comes with being human,” he explained.
In addition to the “BuckTommy” relationship, Stark addressed the age-old question of whether his character and Guzman will take their relationship to the next level.
“Look, Buck is obviously in a new phase of his life, and he has a lot to discover about himself, and I’m really looking forward to him finding out and really exploring what bisexuality means to him. And that has nothing to do with Tommy, and nothing to do with Eddie,” he revealed.
While we’ll have to wait and see if season eight will include a love triangle between Buck, Tommy, and Eddie, we do know that Stark is leaving the door open for a romance with Buddie in the future.
In an April interview with GAY TIMES, the beloved talent said he doesn’t “think Buddie fans are wrong” when it comes to his undeniable chemistry with Guzman: “I see what everyone else sees. I watch the same show.
“So this year I decided that I wanted to be able to lean into some kind of sexual awakening for Buck, no matter what. When the storyline was brought to me by Tim Minear, who wrote the show, it was like, ‘Great! I’m going to do it anyway. It’s nice to know that we’re all on the same page.’” Still, if a Buddie romance does materialize in the future, he explained that “it’ll be because the story naturally unfolds that way. It shouldn’t be done just to please a particular fan base.”
“It should be done because it’s the right story to tell, and in fact, it’s a much more progressive and positive way to tell the story,” he added.
