9-1-1: Lone Star’s Gina Torres Says Tommy and Trevor’s Romance
Is ‘Upheaval Followed by Revelation’ 9-1-1: Lone Star’s Tommy Vega Will Have a Tough Battle With Trevor Parks Then a Romantic Proposal in Season 5 — But Will They Win?
“There’s going to be a lot of upheaval followed by revelation,” Gina Torres, who plays ambulance crew chief Tommy, told Us Weekly exclusively about Tommy and Trevor’s (D.B. Woodside) relationship this season ahead of the season premiere.
“There’s going to be a lot of upheaval followed by revelation,” Gina Torres, who plays ambulance crew chief Tommy, told Us Weekly exclusively about Tommy and Trevor’s (D.B. Woodside) relationship this season ahead of the season premiere.
In the Fox drama’s episode that aired on Monday, September 30, Tommy proposed to Trevor after making a hilarious TikTok video with their daughters. “Trevor Parks, what would you say if I asked you to be my husband?” Tommy said. He replied, “I would say yes… but there’s just one little thing.”
The “little thing” is actually much bigger than you might expect. Trevor said that the only way he could marry Tommy was if his ex-wife — the mother of his child — approved of the marriage. (It’s part of their custody agreement!) (Tommy had to prove himself to the preacher’s daughter before Trevor would take her seriously—and it wasn’t easy.) “There’s a very messy situation between the ex-wife and the kid,” Torres teased at Fox’s Fall Press Day last month. “And what we find out is that they really love each other very much and they understand that parenting is something that needs to be taken seriously.”
Torres noted that meeting the ex-wife was “really important” in “building” a healthy relationship for everyone, including Tommy and Trevor. “It really feels like a relationship,” she added. “And tough decisions have to be made.”
While Torres was coy about Tommy and Trevor getting married in the show’s fifth and final season, she told Us that she thinks the paramedic is ready to get married again after losing her husband, Charles, in season three. “I think she’s ready for the next step,” Torres said. “She’s been able to respectfully mourn Charles [and] also try to figure out who she is at this point in her life.”
She reminded Us that fans have seen Tommy “go through a lot of emotions, and luckily for her,” that it’s time for her to put herself first.
“She’s been an amazing person at work. She’s really working hard to get home and be there for her girls,” Torres explained. “And she’s really trying to fill the role that she needs to as a woman. Just to express herself as a woman.”
While Torres hopes for a happily ever after with Tommy, she teased viewers should prepare for her “most challenging season” to date.
