There are many things you can call Angela Bassett: mother, actress, entrepreneur. Well, now there’s another title to call her: Emmy winner!
The 9-1-1 actress has received nine Emmy nominations throughout her career, and she took home one for a project close to her heart. On September 7, Angela accepted the award for Outstanding Storyteller at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. The award goes to Angela for her voiceover work on National Geographic’s Queens, a seven-episode limited series that explores the concept of matriarchy and female leaders in all forms of nature.
After being overwhelmed by the huge career milestone, Angela emotionally posted the moment she held the coveted trophy on Instagram. She also used the caption to share her feelings about finally receiving the Emmy.
“My first #Emmy. It feels so good to hold this award in my hands,” she gushed the following day, September 8. “Thank you @televisionacad for helping me and the incredible story that the #Queens docuseries tells. I spend so much of my life telling stories in front of the camera, so when I have the opportunity to step back and let these majestic, powerful creatures be the focus of our attention, I am honored to be their voice.”
Of course, Angela’s fans couldn’t contain their excitement at seeing her huge achievement. They were quick to congratulate her in the comments section of her Instagram.
“Long overdue and well deserved!!!!” one person wrote. “Congratulations! … but you always deserve that award! ❤️❤️❤️❤️,” another person declared. “You are so special. We love it. 💚💚💚 👑👑👑 Queen,” another follower added.
Yes, this is definitely a great way to start the fall season! And don’t forget that Angela will be back on TV soon, as 9-1-1 season 8 premieres Thursday, September 26 at 8 p.m. ET. And like previous seasons, her character Athena Nash Grant will definitely be ready to help rescue people from emergencies.
